About Tux ~ On Trial 12/1/2017
Hi I'm Tux and I'm a 2 year old kelpie x cattle dog sweetheart. I'm a pretty sensible fellow, and I'd make a wonderful companion for a single person or couple wanting a loyal and loving best mate. I have striking and hypnotic eyes – they are a yellow, lime colour with rings.
I'm very smart as are most kelpies and cattle dogs so I respond well to training. I'm not highly energetic like some kelpies or cattle dogs - I love a run however I don’t constantly need to be entertained. I'd love a daily walk or jog, and then I'm content to find a sunny spot in the yard to have a snooze afterward. On our walks I love to have a good sniff and check out what’s going on in the neighbourhood.
I would be great on small acreage or a hobby farm (with proper fencing) where I can trot along beside you and we can do chores together. I would also do well on a normal size house block with 6 foot fencing (I have been known to sneak out of the yard if the fences are low to find human companionship!). I enjoy a cool off in a clam pool - so I would do well if you live near a beach or lake and can take me walking and exploring there. Being a mixture of two working breeds I’d love to be given tasks to do to keep me stimulated and feeling like I’m helping you. I love Kongs and food games, although I’m not sure what to do with this weird game called Fetch!
My perfect home is a quiet one with adults or older teenagers who are respectful of dogs. I’m shy when meeting new people and I can flinch if there's a lot of noise or people wave their arms in the air – for this reason my carers think I’d be best suited to older, quiet kids who understand that I can be shy and startled with rough play around me. Or if you are older and your kids have all left the nest then I might be perfect for you.
Even though I am timid meeting new people it doesn’t take me long to warm up to them if they are friendly towards me. I’m not a fan of being brushed, it makes me nervous, but I love your pats and I’ll put my paws around your waist for affection. Once I get to know you I’m so affectionate that I try to sit in your lap like a lapdog. I will happily sit with you for hours getting a good scratch. I'm good with other dogs as I'm used to being around many other dogs where I'm living right now. I enjoy a bit of play time with the other dogs, but I’m also content to be on my own as I love the company of humans more than dogs. I'm used to sleeping outside - however I'd love a home where I can sleep inside on my own bed and where I can come inside to spend time with you.
If you would like to find out more information about me please contact Jo on Jo.payne.aus@hotmail.com . I am in foster care in Morisset on the NSW Central Coast.
My adoption fee of $450 covers my microchipping, vaccination, desexing , registration with council and flea and worm treatments.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
