About Rupert -Netherland Dwarf (Desexed, Vaccinated)
**rupert has been looking for a home since early august 2009!!!**
happy birthday rupert! over one year in rescue and still waiting for the right home to come along. . . It is a wonder that this little gem of a bunny is still in rescue looking for a home. Just look at how adorable he is in the photos and you'll see why so many of us are in love with rupert. However, as with any rabbit that stays in rescue for so long, he does have some issues. So lets get over the bad bit before we talk about all of ruperts fantastic points. Reasons why rupert is not appealing to adopters:
1. Rupert takes a while before he likes you. He is not one of those bunnies that loves everybody he meets. He definately likes the stability of a family, and has bonded heavily to those who have taken the time to get to know him. If you dissapoint him one day by cutting his playtime short, he will remember the next day and not be as affectionate. 2. Yes, rupert has red eyes. We're not going to hide that by putting in contact lenses, the fact is people who do not like red eyed bunnies have to get over their complex. He is just as lovely as a bunny with brown eyes. 3. Rupert appears quite elderly and accident prone. Although no spring chicken, he still is one of the most active bunnies here. He has an abscess on his jaw, which requires repeated treatments to keep under control. At the moment he has to be injected every day. 4. Rupert does not like the litter tray. He is finicky about cleanliness, so does all his poos and wees in one place, but that is not the litter tray. At the moment his entire enclosure is filled with litter trays and the one place in the middle where there isn't one is where he's decided to do his business. Ahh well. . . 5. Rupert is clever. He is not happy being stuck in a cage all day, and gets stressed easily. He needs to be given lots of toys on rotation so he never gets bored with them. As soon as he gets bored of his environment, his abscess gets worse or he gets some other medical problem. That's why mental stimulation is essential to keep him happy. Now, what we're hoping for is a miracle. Is there anyone that lives alone in a house/apartment and wants to share their time with a neurotic bunny? rupert has lots of love to give in return, and hasn't got a mean bone in his body. He really wants to please the right person and become their best friend. He'd love to sit on the couch watching movies with his special someone, zooming around and showing off how high he can jump. ***thankyou to kristen pearson for sponsoring this beautiful boy! your generous donation will go towards having rupert desexed and help with ongoing costs while he is in our care. ***

Medical notes
13. 8. 10 rupert is off all medication! so long as he is kept happy we see no further problems down the track. Vaccinated -please note that due to the release of calici virus on march the 1st, 2010, all bunnies adopted from us will be vaccinated. Please allow for an increase in the adoption fee to cover this large expense. Desexing normally costs anywhere from $100-$360. Vaccinations are from $40-80 (costs differ between vet clinics). Please don't try and haggle the adoption fee
