About Yoda (Foster to Adopt)
Yoda is a shy little fellow who is as tiny as they come. He weighs barely 2kg and is looking for a quiet home where he can regain his health and be very loved.
FOSTER CARER NEEDED! Yoda is heartworm positive, which means he needs 6 months worth of treatment. Because he will need such long term care, he is available to go to a foster home that will eventually adopt him. Please read below:
Yoda is a sweet little chihuahua who came to us from North Qld. Unfortunately, he has tested positive for heartworm, which is very common in the area he came from. Treatment is available and Chihuahua Rescue Qld is going to pay for this, however full treatment takes 6 months and involves weekly visits to the vet, and several overnight hospital stays in a 24 hours vet facility for monitoring.
We feel it would be cruel to put Yoda in a foster home for 6 months and then move him again, so we are looking for his forever home and will first sign them up as foster carers. This means, we will cover all the expenses related to Yoda's heartworm treatment, but his new owners can bond with him as soon as possible.
Being such a nervous little guy who is also very very small, he would do best in a quiet home without noisy children.
Yoda's anxiety stems from fear of being touched. He is not a lap dog nor does he want to be patted. We are hoping this is because of his physical discomfort and not a behavioural issue, however we will not know until we have fixed all his physical problems. Yoda doesn't have separation anxiety and is happiest snuggling in his bed inside. He is toilet trained and will let you know he needs to go back out and come back in by barking. His new family will be supported by our team of dog trainers and a Vet Behaviourist if needed.
As part of Yoda's recovery from heartworm, he will be given injections that will require him to be strictly rested for the next few months. This means Yoda will spend a lot of his time confined, as over activity can cause him to have a heart attack and die. It is essential his new owners understand this and take his rest period very seriously.
His new owners also need to be available to take him to the vets at either Kedron, Browns Plains or Jindalee and to the 24 Hour Vet at Woolloongabba, where he will be receiving treatment.
The ideal foster/forever home would be:
A home without small children.
A home with other small, quiet dogs. He loves other dogs however will be on strict rest whilst recovering from heartworm, so he can not run around and play, or go for walks for the next 6 months. For this reason his new owner must be able to keep him crated from the other dogs so they don't stir him up.
An owner who is able to transport him to and from the approved vets on a regular basis (at some points, weekly visits will be needed)
If you'd be interested in fostering (with the view to adopt) this Yoda, please complete a foster application.
