About Digby ~ Great Dane x Greyhound (Trial 12/2/17)
Introducing the beautiful gentle giant, Digby. – a 16 month old Great Dane x Greyhound boy.
Here is some background about Digby - He had a very hard and challenging start to life as a puppy having been abandoned on a work site in the upper Hunter Valley with his siblings. Under the watchful, patient and loving eye of one of the Dog Rescue Newcastle carers, he and his siblings were nursed back to health. Digby and his siblings were adopted. Through no fault of his own, Digby was returned to Dog Rescue Newcastle after a period of time. With kindness, patience, understanding and love in our home, he is now ready for his forever home.
At 16months old and weighing 39kg, Digby is still in his puppy stage and must go to a home that is committed to continuing his training. Digby does not have a mean bone in his body but forgets how big he is. Therefore, Digby would suit a family that has very dog savvy children that know how to behave with a large dog and adults that understand his size. We would love to see Digby go to a home with a reasonably large yard with 6 foot fencing or even to an acreage with safe secure fencing.
Digby has enjoyed the company of two indoor cats while he has been with us, and we have not had a problem at all. He has been beautiful with our elderly 13 year old Tonkinese and they are often seen on the lounge asleep together (our other 3 year old cat just ignores him mostly) He has not been tested with pocket pets or birds (including poultry). This darling boy needs to be walked everyday for 30 minutes and has learnt how to walk on a long lead with no tension. Digby will flourish in a home that has another gentle natured medium/ large size dog for companionship. This is something we feel is very important for him as he will not be happy left alone without a doggy pal. He loves dogs of all sizes and is happy to play with everyone.
Digby is excellent in the car and thoroughly enjoys trips. Watching TV on the lounge is something Digby immensely loves and is so well behaved when spending time inside. He is completely toilet trained and we have never had a toileting incident while he has been with us. He has been an inside/outside dog while here. Digby would love to sleep on a trampoline bed inside at night with your family or perhaps you might have a lounge that he can claim as his own.
Digby enjoys very short time spans of playing with a soft toy or large ball however we have found that he much prefers companionship. He adores pats, cuddles, tummy rubs and massages. He has learnt to sit (or lay down) when his food is presented to him. He is not a massive eater and must remain on good quality food. We have no doubt that Digby will become a much treasured and loved family member due to his beautiful kind spirit and happy disposition.
For more information about Digby or to meet him, please contact Kath on 0400 788 625 or email kharding2014@hotmail.com. Digby is in foster care in the Newcastle area, NSW and is available for adoption interstate.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
