About Monty ED0077
Monty is a most enchanting and happy little boy – at first a little shy, but once he gets to know you he becomes the most affectionate and devoted dog.
Monty has had a very difficult start in life, living as a yard dog with very little time or interest given to him. He lived with other entire male dogs and therefore had to learn to cope and survive in a stressful environment; consequently, Monty lacks confidence. Monty may be best suited as an only pet as he craves attention and affection.
Due to his background, Monty has not been well socialised, but with gentle introduction he does accept other friendly canines. Monty is being fostered with a resident dog that he absolutely adores – they play and sleep together – it was love at first sight. It would be absolutely essential for Monty’s new owners to continue to work on his socialisation – we would recommend attending behaviour classes – and to help, he is so eager to please.
Monty is generally a little timid when meeting new people but once he gets over his caution he is very friendly, sometimes to the point of exuberance. He has not been tested with children but we would suggest that because he has a tendency to jump for attention, he should only be homed with older children.
Monty loves to play with people or his foster dog – he loves nothing more than catching a tennis ball (he doesn’t return them yet!) or chasing his foster doggy friend on the beach. He is also very good at jumping and spinning round if excited – a little party trick.
Monty is learning to walk on the leash – he does walk quietly but can pull to get to interesting smells or other dogs, or he will jump up asking to be carried if he feels insecure. His energy levels are medium to high and so giving him adequate exercise and making him use his active brain will encourage positive behaviour and increase his confidence which is so important for him. As Monty is quite an active boy, if left alone for too long he may chew, so providing him with a chew toy such as a Kong or tasty bone, will keep him occupied. Monty has learned the commands sit, stay and come.
Monty is housetrained but has had the occasional accident at night – he has done so well adjusting from being an outside dog to one that also comes in the house. Monty is generally quiet but will bark when there is someone at the door and will follow his human’s lead very quickly accepting the visitor.
Monty would settle well in a home where someone is with him most of the day. He could also live with another dog, depending on meet. Monty craves affection and to be someone’s very special friend. He has come such a long way and has so much sweet potential that he truly deserves his place with a loving family of his own. If you are looking for a very sweet, deserving and loving little boy who will give you hours of fun and pleasure then Monty is waiting for you.
