About Mirri ~ loyal 7yo Kelpie X girl (On Trial 18/2/17)
Do you believe in life after love? Mirri is sure hoping so. This incredibly loyal and devoted Kelpie is going to need a truly loving soul to heal her broken heart. She is a beautiful 7 year old black Kelpie X who has clearly been loved and spoilt as an inside dog. We know this because when she comes inside, she promptly gets up on the lounge beside us! She will settle for a comfy dog bed though if the lounge is a no go zone.
If your reason for adopting is genuinely to give a great dog a second chance at happiness then this is your girl. Her elderly owner passed away and after being left behind for several days with her brother, she was then handed in by authorities to the pound. With 24 hours to live she was busted out by DRN and is now in care with 2 other dogs and 2 kids aged 10 & 13. She has been friendly with all dogs she has met, but does not like younger dogs trying to jump on and play with her and is happier on her own. If her new owners were mostly home with her then she would be happy just to be with them. She doesn't get along with cats.
Ideally, I think she would be best suited to an active retired couple who will spoil and dote on her and walk her daily. Mirri would be best with children over 12 as she can be scared of small children. She walks beautifully on a lead and enjoys getting out and will then happily sleep the day away. She has quite a loud bark, but has only used it a couple of times at noises in the night. Always a bonus of dog ownership when they make you feel more protected in your home. She is a medium sized dog and weighs approximately 20kgs.
Mirri is quite shy, but is slowly learning to trust her new carers and surroundings. If you have the time and patience to win her over, I’m convinced you will not find a more loyal companion!
For more information or to meet Mirri, please contact her foster carer Lauren by emailing hitthesand@hotmail.com. Mirri is in foster care in Port Stephens, NSW (north of Newcastle) and is available for adoption interstate.
Mirri's adoption fee is $200 and she is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
