About China ~ Shih Tzu (on trial 5/12/16)
China is a 5 year old cream and white Shih Tzu who needs a calm and quiet environment where she can be inside and have access to outside. Although she currently lives with cats and other small dogs China needs a home where she is the only pet. She also lives with children, however she needs a child free home to feel safe and calm.
China is fully house trained. She is a special girl who needs someone willing to work with her. She is a quiet dog who is very unsure of what has happened to the home she was familiar with. She needs to develop trust and confidence in a new home with patience and understanding. She takes time to warm up to people and has shown a preference to becoming attached to a male as she has done with my husband and my father.
China prefers to have her feet and body on the ground. She loves to sit beside you on the lounge or lay near your feet while you quietly go about your daily routine. She is happiest with you in the yard as you garden or sit in the outside area. As an only pet she will need someone who is home often. She is fine to be left alone as long as she has access to inside where she feels safest.
China has a beautiful low shedding coat which needs regular brushing (every few days depending on length), bathing (every few weeks) and clipping (every 4 to 8 weeks) to keep her comfortable and beautiful.
China needs to be walked every day. This is an activity she enjoys and it helps to regulate her anxiety. Walking with her also acts as a way to bond with her and form a trusting relationship. China also needs to be on medication for this anxiety. After a period of adjustment in her new home you can consultat with your vet who will determine if this medication will need to be ongoing or slowly weaned away.
China does have a teddy she likes to sleep with and sometimes enjoys to play with it on her own. This teddy usually stays in the area she sleeps – a dog bed in our room near my husband’s side of the bed. She will need an area like this to retreat to, to feel safe, and the teddy bear she has will go with her to her forever home.
China is in foster care in Maryland, NSW (Newcastle) and due to her special requirements we feel it's best that she stay in our region. She is only available to Maitland/Newcastle/Lake Macquarie/Central Coast and close surrounding suburbs. For more information or to meet China, please contact Jaime by email jaihol@bigpond.com or on 0410 491 882, leaving a message with a name and contact details.
China’s adoption fee is $450 and she is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
