About Ava ~ On Trial 3/12/16
Hi I'm Ava and I'm a petite and stunning silver fawn kelpie. I'm very little (around 10-12kg) and fine boned (almost like a whippet) and I'm just over 2 and a half years old. I have soft teddy bear fur which is the prettiest silver and pale green eyes.
I'm shy when meeting new people, however once I know and trust you I'll be your little shadow following you around the house. I'm very affectionate and love cuddles and am content to lay by your side - I love to have at least some part of me touching you!
I'm not your typical high energy kelpie - I'm happy to have a play in the yard and a good sniff and then I'll trot back inside to see what you're doing. I'd love a daily walk to explore the world and gain confidence in my surroundings. My ideal home would be one where I'm inside with my family a lot, if your kids have left the nest or you are semi-retired then I'd happily be your fur child. I am in foster care with children and I do like them, however due to my shyness I'd be better in a home without children as their noise and sudden movements startle me.
I'm in foster care with another friendly dog and we do coexist with each other, but it does take me a while to warm up to new dogs as their exuberance is a little overwhelming for me. When my foster mum is out I enjoy the company of my fur sister but I really do prefer my humans so I'm so excited when you get home. I'm such a people dog that I'd thrive in a home where I'm the only dog and a true companion. I have met a cat and I was fine – he didn’t like me much though!!
I am very scared of thunderstorms - I'm so scared that I can scale 6 foot fencing. So my new family will need to be understanding of my fear and keep me safely inside the house on stormy days. I sleep inside and am practicing being a hot water bottle in my foster mum’s bed! I'll happily sleep in my own bed on the floor too.
If you are looking for a small, cuddly and affectionate companion dog then I'm your girl.

Due to her shyness we will need to meet with her new family a few times to allow her to gain confidence.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
