About Jarvis ~ 13wo Great Dane X boy (On Trial 2/12/16)
This handsome puppy impeccably decked out in a shiny black and white tuxedo, complete with a gentleman's moustache is Jarvis! Yes - he has a moustache!
Jarvis is a 13 week old Great Dane X boy who charms everyone he meets with his perfect manners and his open, friendly and gentle nature. He is going to be a large dog and despite his best efforts to be careful, he is incredibly clumsy at the moment while he grows into his feet, so a house with older children would be preferable.
Jarvis is crate trained and toilet trained, but he doesn't mind if he sleeps inside or out so long as he has a comfortable bed and can spend quality time inside with you each day. He knows basic commands including coming to his name and sitting - with treats he can do anything you teach him including a hilarious leggy attempt at 'roll over'. Jarvis loves walks, he doesn't pull on the lead and he is confident when exploring new places although he can't go too far at this age as he is a large puppy and long walks put stress on his growing body.
Jarvis is currently being fostered with 5 other adult dogs and 6 puppies and he is absolutely adored by all of them. A home with other dogs to keep him company is a must for Jarvis. Although he loves his humans - he really enjoys time with his doggy friends, wrestling and playing and he would be lost without them.
Jarvis is learning how to fetch and likes to play tug. He loves to 'help' with housework and gardening and will always be either one step behind you or laying at your feet waiting for you to do the next thing on your list. Jarvis also enjoys lazy rainy days and has been known to sleep on the couch through an entire movie marathon.
After coming into foster care from a rural pound, Jarvis has been raised in a home environment with lots of positive socialisation with people and dogs. He has not been tested with cats or pocket pets. He is a calm and affectionate healthy puppy who would make a beautiful easy going addition to a family looking for a loyal large breed dog.
Ongoing training is always important and we recommend puppy pre-school to get them set with the basics.
For more information or to meet Jarvis please contact is foster carer Leah on 0416 069 175 (texts are best) or email matthew.watts@bigpond.com. Jarvis is in foster care in Awaba, Lake Macquarie (south of Newcastle).
As Jarvis is not yet desexed, he is only available for adoption to Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Central Coast and Port Stephens because he'll need to be returned to one of our vets for desexing when he is 5 months old.
Jarvis' adoption fee is $500 which includes his desexing, vaccination, treatment for fleas and worms, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all of our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
