About Poppy
Hi everyone! My name is Poppy, and I am a little ball of love and happiness. I was left to die in a rural pound, emaciated and still producing milk for puppies. Nobody knows where my babies are but the vet thinks they could only have been 5wks old when I was impounded. I was rescued by the OTC team as nobody came for me while I was impounded and my time was up. It was apparent almost immediately just how incredible I am. My fosters fell in love instantly and so did my furry foster sister Cleo, another OTC dog saved the same day. I have been putting on weight at a healthy pace since being fed regularly and am now just as healthy as any normal dog :) I will have no special requirements regarding health or wellness despite the condition I was in when I was abandoned. You'll see in my photos the difference between those taken on day one and those taken on day five!
I am a quiet, affectionate and obedient girl with a cute smile. I get along GREAT with other dogs. I have fantastic manners and enjoy relaxing int the sun and being around my humans. I am a great inside dog, I am clean, quiet and gentle. Generally my foster carers don't let me up on the couch, bed etc-as they know most homes won't want a dog on the furniture. I am respectful of this rule and don't mind one bit. I am perfectly happy to lay on the floor next to you and know what my bed is.
I have a calming, loving presence but can be a little scared at first. I act as if I have been smacked a bit in the past, I duck my head sometimes and have my tail down a lot. I have never snapped, growled or bitten my carers, event though I can be scared I am never anything but loving and submissive. Being cattle x jack russell you would expect me to be high energy - but so far I have not shown any signs of distress with being unable to be walked/run etc. I am still in 'quarantine' as I only just received my vaccinations. Despite the fact I haven't left the foster carer's yard except for vet trips -I have not complained or broken things/dug holes once! For my long term health and balance, like any dog I will of course require exercise in my forever home- but it's probably nice for my humans to know that I'm not the destructive type should I miss a day due to rain etc.
I will be available to meet and be adopted on December 4th, 2016 at Amaroo Pet in Toowoomba, 4350. OTC are having an adoption day and I will have just passed my quarantine period and been desexed so can come and see the world! I can't wait to meet you! I have not yet been tested with children and cats- this will happen in the coming days.
