About Oaky
Meet Oaky. Our lovable 2 year old pointer cattle dog cross. Oaky's a lively boy who is very attentive to his people. Oaky knows sit and shake very well, and will often sit beside you with his paw on your knee. He's incredibly smart, very trainable, and a joy to work with, and in just a few short sessions Oaky's learnt to sit (without shaking), drop, stand and shake on command.
Still a puppy at heart, Oaky has a wonderful temperament towards both people and dogs. He does tend to scare easily if another dog is aggressive/barks, but will just move out of the way. Oaky has had very limited social interaction with other dogs, although we have been increasing this on a weekly basis. He is playful and excited when he does get his chance, which we have fun can upset some older or smaller dogs. He has not been aggressive towards any dogs at this point, but is awfully curious about cats and possums.
Oaky has a reasonably high energy level and will thrive with someone who can provide him with some engaging activities and training. Oaky really enjoys his training (he has a lovely smile and gets this lovely circular tail wag when he's really happy..) so someone who is willing to continue reinforcing his basic obedience training as well as introduce Oaky to some appropriate dogs with trainer guidance would be ideal. While at home, Oaky will follow you around, always curious about what each person is doing. All he wants is to be close to you, and know that he is loved.
Oaky does have some normal doggy behaviours which his new family will have to be mindful of such as jumping on the couch and some minor mouthing. In a few short training sessions we've been able to reduce the frequency of these events and are confident that with the appropriate training, Oaky won't be inclined to engage in this way in the future. However as a necessary precaution, we ask any potential persons of interest to ensure that they have enclosed fencing around their properties to ensure Oaky stays safe and with his people.
Given Oaky's major breed lineage, we have to advise against Oaky being homed with small children or smaller animals such as cats.
