About Matilda ~ Moodle (On Trial 20/11/16)
Introducing Matilda, a.k.a Matilda Jane, Tilly and Tiny Til, a sweet 4 year old Moodle (Maltese x Poodle).
Matilda can be scared around new people, especially men, but once she gets to know you she will want to be your best friend. She is a highly loyal and affectionate dog, who really just wants to be loved.
Matilda will need forever home where she can be given lots of time and attention. Along with cooked chicken, these are her favourite things in life. She is fine to share that love with another dog (hasn't been tested with other pets though), so long as they will play and cuddle with her. She also doesn't mind sharing her home with young children, but will need a quiet space of her own that they cannot access, as she can get overwhelmed. Really though, so long as there is a willing lap for her to spend most of her time on - and a person to follow everywhere when they aren't sitting - Matilda is happy.
Matilda is an easy going dog in most aspects of her care; she likes short walks and is good on a lead, she isn't too fussy of an eater (though she much prefers to be fed in the morning) and she likes to play but isn't needy or demanding with toys. Her fur will require regular grooming, but she is very cooperative with being brushed and clipped; and when her fur is short, it is low shedding.
Matilda is very protective of her chosen person - she considers herself to be a bit of a guard dog - and also loves to be a part of all the action. For these reasons, while she is more than content to rest and cuddle, she will also jump up and chase away any potential "enemies “or disturbances - her arch nemesis seems to be flies.
Additionally, if Matilda is left at home alone, she may bark at passers-by while awaiting your return. She has settled a lot since moving in with her foster family - this is in part due to have inside access at her leisure, using a doggy door - and should continue to improve once she has settled into her forever home. The same applies to toilet training and jumping up to say hello, both of which she is getting better with all the time. All her other manners are great - she sits, waits for food and responds to "no".
Matilda will need kindness and positive reinforcement to continue her training and learning - she doesn't like loud noises or unexpected contact. She loves pats and treats and acknowledgement though!
Matilda would be best suited to a home where someone is around more often than not and she can be made a part of all aspects of life.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
