About Tommy ~ Silky x Maltese, 2yo (On Trial 7/11/16)
Tommy is a beautiful little, 2yo, Silky x Maltese. He has experienced neglect and abuse in his past but since being rescued he is learning about affection and fun for the first time. Tommy is looking for a special forever mum or dad to introduce him to all the good things in life!
Tommy pays no attention to cats, chickens, rabbits, or guinea pigs. He likes to play with the other little dogs that he is living with. He could live with another friendly dog or he could be a pampered only pooch.
Tommy enjoys a daily walk but it doesn't have to be a long one. He walks nicely on a harness and lead and shouldn't be let off lead. He's very good in the car. He is a good boy at night and sleeps in his own bed next to his foster carer's bed. He is an inside dog and needs to be safely inside when no one is home, and to sleep inside. He is housetrained.
Tommy will be incredibly devoted to any person who shows him gentle kindness but he will be frightened of everyone else, until he gets to know them. He is afraid of strangers that come to the house so needs to be put on lead until they sit down and he gets to know them. A few treats tossed his way work wonders in gaining his trust!!! Our volunteer dog trainer will be happy to advise you and work with you on this. He isn't suited to a busy household with frequent visitors or to live with children under 16. Yes, he is a special boy but if you give him a chance you will be rewarded a million times over with his sweetness and beauty, inside and out.
Tommy has the most gorgeous silky, shiny, soft, and fluffy coat. He sheds very little so he needs regular brushing (which he loves!), bathing every few weeks, and clipping (every three or four months) to keep him comfortable and beautiful.
Tommy suits a home with someone who is retired or works from home and, ideally, who is experienced with dogs. He is really the most beautiful and loving boy once you get to know him and he will bring you lots and lots of love and happiness. He is still very young and has his whole life ahead of him to share with his forever family.
For more information or to meet Tommy, please contact Terri on 0419 470 910 or email dogrescuenewcastle@gmail.com. Tommy is in foster care in Belmont, NSW (Lake Macquarie, south of Newcastle) and is not available for adoption interstate.
Tommy's adoption fee is only $200 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
