About Pixie & Poppy ~ Chihuahua pair (Trial 9/12/16)
The gorgeous Pixie and Poppy are two small bonded dogs that must be adopted together. Pixie (tan and white) is a Chihuahua girl and Poppy (black, tan and white) is a tiny mini foxy x. They are both approximately 3-4 years old.
When they first came into care, they were very frightened of everything - they hid under the lounge and stayed there, waiting until everyone went to bed to come out for food and water. They have very slowly learnt to trust a few people. They prefer women to men, however I am confident they will trust a man with some time and gentle persuasion.
They cannot bear to be away from each other. They seek each other out if they are not in sight. Poppy is the leader and Pixie looks to her for guidance at all times.
Pixie and Poppy are both toilet trained. They love to run around together in the yard and they have access to the house during the day. They have been sleeping together in a crate whilst in foster care. They are well behaved we do not hear them all night.
Pixie and Poppy happily play with other dogs in our care. They are inside dogs and must remain so, they are too little and still a little frightened to stay outside at night. They love to just hang out with us and will lay with you and watch TV. They remain very timid when strangers come to the house - they run and hide until visitors leave. They require a brush every day, and are happy to have a bath. They are good in the car usually.
Pixie and Poppy would best suit a quiet home with older children. In foster care they have been met children 11 to 6 years - they have not interacted with the children, they would rather just watch them. They are not suited to children under 12 years as they prefer a quiet life.
They are able to be left alone during the day if you work as long as you have secure fences and they have a doggy door to gain entry into the house if they require.
In foster care they have taken a bit of time to settle and then become happy, it is just lovely to see them get closer and more settled every day. It has been tremendously rewarding just seeing them change from two scared little dogs into two happy little personalities.
Poppy and Pixie have a lot of love to give and you will enjoy their company and sweet natures.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
