About Commander
Commander is the sweetest boy, he has great manners and is excellent with cats and small children. He was surrendered to a country NAsW pound after being kicked by a horse, sadly he is a little too interested in them and has found out the hard way that they are not tollerant of silly dogs.
You will notice he had a cast on his leg, now removed he had surgery to mend his tibia with a screw and wire. He is responding well to the repairs but must be kept quiet spending all of his time confined in a crate for his own safety only let outside for toilet stood. A secondary break can not be risked and so it is imperative he is supervised when outside to make sure there is no slip or twist. Again he is such a good boy he seems to understand the need to be slow and gentle.
Commander will be well matched to life in a suburban home, his personal qualities make him very easy to love. His basic obidience is good and he walks well on the lead.
His long term prognosis is very good with some arthritis expected as an obvious result of the injury. We doubt it will not stop him from enjoying life for many years to come. If you believe Commander is the boy for you, then please visit our website and complete an adoption application form.
Medical notes
Broken Tibia, pinned and wired by Patrik Holmboe, a vet here a Benetook Vet Clinic.
Commander had a fracture of the tibia repaired with a pin lengthwise through the tibia + 3 wires around the fracture. In addition to this, a hard cast was placed on the leg as well for additional safety.
The main post-op instructions are:
1) Complete the full course of medications as listed on the medication packages.
2) Very careful exercise! For the first 3-4 weeks at least, a small pen would be best so that he can't build too much speed. Any walks outside of the pen must be on a short lead. This is truly imperative for fracture healing, as a breakdown of the fix could be catastrophic.
Since arriving in Adelaide Commander is under the care of Dr Stevens at Elizabeth Park et clinic. He has had his cast removed and is on a further dose of medications. He is coping well with his restrictive lifestyle and wins hearts wit everyone he meets.

3. If your are successful, one of our volunteers will contact you to organise a meet and greet at your home and conduct a yard check at the same time.
4. Should all go to plan, you will be welcomed to start your 2 week trial period immediately. Adoption fee will be required to be paid at the beginning of the trial period.
During the 2 week trial period, should you decide that this dog is not for you, you are welcome to return the dog (the more notice the better, to ensure we have a foster carer available) and your payment will be retunded to you in full, within 3 business days of the return of the dog.

We are a volunteer run organisation, who have their own jobs during the day, we don't have someone manning our phones 24/7, therefore cannot respond to all inquiries immediately.
