Havana & Rio

Havana & Rio were surrendered along with a large number of other guinea pigs. They had all been living together so unsurprisingly Havana was pregnant. A number of weeks after being in care Havana gave birth very prematurely to a completely undeveloped baby. She was rushed to the vet the next day as she had not given birth to any others and was not looking her normal, happy self. Scans revealed 2 more babies, however no movement could be detected. The babies needed to be delivered urgently and after drugs didn’t have any result we proceeded to an emergency caesarean. The babies had unfortunately passed and if we hadn’t acted so quickly Havana wouldn’t have made it either as the babies were turning septic. Havana was desexed during the surgery and thankfully will never have to endure the stress of pregnancy again. She now lives with Rio who is also desexed and they enjoy hanging out together. They are both easy to handle and are friendly little pigs!
