About Diesel ~ Doberman X
Diesel is a beautiful 4.5 year old Doberman X Shepherd who is affectionate and a big sook. He loves nothing more than to be where you are. He follows you around the yard waiting for pats and he enjoys a good belly rub. He loves to bring you gifts when he sees you - he will pick up a stick, toy or anything close by he can hold and bring it to you excitedly. He doesn't quite understand his size and will bound over to you happily and awkwardly on his gangly legs which is irresistibly adorable!
Diesel walks well on a lead and loves regular walks. He can be vocal when meeting other dogs when on lead so he would love a family who will spend more time with lead training and who are confident with large, vocal dogs. When being introduced to new dogs, he prefers to be held close to sniff them first, once he warms up to them he will want to sniff and play. He has been raised with another dog and he’s very happy with having a canine friend once he knows them. He’s also equally happy to be an only dog so he gets loads of attention.
He loves playing with toys (especially those that can hide treats) He loves his food (he’s not fussy at all!) and is very treat focused so he is easy to train with positive techniques. He can sit, stay, roll over, lay down, shake hands and will wait to eat his food until you say "ok".
He loves chewing on bones and will carry them around with him for days. He can get a little car sick which is avoided by not feeding him before taking him for car rides.
Diesel would love to live with someone who can give him a lot of love, attention and exercise him daily. He would make a perfect companion to most adult and older children or teenagers who are used to large, clumsy dogs and their antics. He would love an active, outdoorsy family who can spend fun time with him and even do some advanced training. Due to his size, he might knock over little children accidentally so he’s better with older kids.
Diesel is happy being outside as long as he gets lots of cuddles and attention, he would love it if he’s allowed inside when you get home. He is OK at home alone if you go out to work, he’ll keep himself entertained with toys and chasing bugs, lizards and flies. Due to his interest in little animals he is best homed without pocket pets, cats or chickens as he would love to chase them. He would love a yard to run around in, and he is best suited to 5 or 6 foot fencing. He can get over low, or wire mesh fencing if he’s bored – so 5 or 6 foot fencing will keep him safely at home.
If you think this big beautiful clumsy boy would be a great match for your family, please contact Jo on jo.payne.aus@hotmail.com (preferred) or 0427 695 104 (outside business hours). Diesel is located at Eleebana, NSW 2282 (Newcastle area) and is available for adoption interstate.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
