About California ~ Husky x Puppy ~ On Trial 20/11/16
Introducing sweet California (Cali for short) - a 4 and a half month old husky X puppy. Cali is the sweetest and loving little girl, she is very shy when she first meets new people but once she knows you she is a bundle of joy and kisses. She has striking blue eyes and a big puppy smile that turns your heart to mush - she has a soft blonde short coat that makes her cuddles irresistible!
Cali is a very tall pup so she will most likely grow into a large adult. It's hard to guess her breed mix - it's possible there is some white shepherd or lab in there. No matter what her breed mix is she is a total gem.
Cali is looking for a forever family with no children (due to her shyness) - families with older teenagers who are respectful and confident with large breed dogs may be suitable. We require her new family to be experienced with Arctic breeds - so if you love the husky breed she may just be the girl for you. Cali would love a home with a well behaved and playful adult dog who can be a good role model for her. She is very impressionable so having a well-mannered and well socialised canine friend to show her the ropes will assist in her development into a social adult herself.
Cali would love a well fenced yard to do zoomies in - she enjoys running around with a canine friend and burning off her playful puppy energy. She will need a daily walk and toys and food style puzzles to keep her stimulated as she grows. As long as she has a canine friend and entertainment she will be fine if you are a full time worker. If you live near the beach or a dog park she would benefit from visiting them to keep her well socialised and help her understand that outdoor adventures are fun and rewarding.
Cali is currently in foster care with 5 dogs of various breeds, ages and sizes and she likes them all. She is also in care with a dog-friendly cat and is great with him so if you have a cat that loves and is very confident with dogs then she could be a good match.
Cali is an indoor/outdoor dog - she is happy to be outside with her canine friend while you are out. She needs to have access to the house when you are home and must sleep inside. She will sleep comfortably in a cosy dog bed on the floor in the lounge or your room and sleeps the whole night through. Being such a young girl from a pound she is very new to toilet training so is still learning the ropes. Her new family will need to understand that she will have accidents when first adopted and they need to commit to further training using positive reinforcement techniques.
Cali is very clever and is already learning to sit and drop. She enjoys her food and treat rewards so will be a pleasure to train as she grows. She still has sharp puppy teeth when taking treats so she is currently learning to be “gentle” when taking food from your hand. She would thrive with advance training - we always recommend puppy-training classes to give your new family member the best start in life. All dogs and puppies need plenty of affection, exercise, and training over their lifetime.
For more information or to meet Cali, please email Jo at jo.payne.aus@hotmail.com. Cali is in foster care near Gosford, NSW (Central Coast) and is only available for adoption to Central Coast and Sydney areas. She is not available for long distance or interstate adoption.
Cali's adoption fee is $550 and includes her desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au
Medical notes
Cali has a hard lump (bone like) on the bridge of her nose - it's been checked by the vet and no treatment is required.
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
