About Panda Bear ~ On Trial 9/12/16
Introducing beautiful Panda – a 4 and a half year old male Border Collie x . Panda is a lovely boy who will charm your socks off - he has big amber eyes and has the fluffy coat of a big grizzly bear. He loves to have his photo taken and will pose for selfies – why wouldn’t you when you are this good looking? We are unsure what he is crossed with, however we’ve had many people speculate that he has either Newfoundland, Belgian Shepherd or Bernese Mountain Dog in him. No matter what the mix this man of mystery is an absolute gem.
Panda is a big cruisy ball of fluff – he loves to catch his football if you throw it to him in the yard, he’ll leap into the air to catch it and show you some super cool jump moves. He doesn’t last long at this game though – so after about 10 minutes he’s ready for a nap. Although he’s a border collie x he doesn’t have the active energy that you would normally associate with a border collie – this boy is after a chilled out life and only has small bursts of energy. He prefers to be a lounge lizard especially on a warm day.
Panda walks well on lead - he'd enjoy a daily walk in his ideal home as he loves a good sniff and to explore his surroundings. He doesn’t need a long walk and he’s definitely not a running companion. He would probably be OK in a home with full time workers as long as he was walked each day and is given big meaty bones, toys or chews to keep him occupied when you're out. He is a big woolly boy who sheds a lot of hair, so his new family will need to be happy with all that hair in the house, on your furniture (and on your clothes!) that this big bear will bring!
Panda is shy with men and young kids as he's received trauma in the past to cause distrust. He will warm up to gentle and caring men given time and space. We would like his new home to be with a couple or single, or perhaps a family with older teenagers who understand that dogs their need for space. Young children will be too much for him and may find his cuddly teddy bear appearance too irresistible to allow him his own space. A mature couple whose children have already left the nest might be a good match for him. Any men in the house will need to be very gentle and keen to commit time and effort into building long term trust with Panda. Panda can pace and lose body weight when in noisy environments so he is best suited to a quiet and relaxed home.
Panda is an inside / outside dog and needs to be allowed inside when his family is home. He needs to be able to sleep inside – he’s quite content to sleep on his own comfy dog bed on the floor in the lounge room. His perfect family would be one who will treat him as a member of the family and will commit to his well-being long term and help socialise him with new people in a positive and rewarding way. Panda doesn’t need a big yard, however he does like to chase his football when you throw it so a yard large enough to play this game would be great for him. Panda absolutely loves to chase possums, so he is not suited to a home with cats, pocket pets or chickens.
Panda is in foster care with 2 other medium sized chilled out dogs and he happily coexists with them. Although he lives happily with other quiet dogs he doesn’t play with them or interact much with them – he is more of a people dog. He doesn’t like dogs who are in his face or try to encourage him to play – he finds them way too boisterous and annoying. He would be fine as an only dog or with another senior quiet dog who gives him his own space.
If you've got a place in your home and heart for a big lovely bear like Panda please contact Jo on Jo.payne.aus@hotmail.com . Panda is currently in foster care near Gosford on the NSW Central Coast. He is not available for long distance or interstate adoption.
Panda's adoption fee is $500 and includes his desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration.
Medical notes
Healthy boy who can lose body weight when he is stressed or surrounded by a very exciting environment.
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
