About Poppy DL1482
Poppy is a lovely, cruisy relaxed dog, enjoys human company and is happy to just be with you. Poppy comes from a loving family with two small boys (2 & 4 y.o.) who had her from a small pup but were no longer able to care for her.
Poppy is a clever girl; she is house trained, she sits and waits for the ok to eat her food, she doesn't beg for yours and will move away and sit on her bed when asked. She will recall at home and sit when she returns and is learning to drop from a sitting position.
Poppy walks nicely on lead with a Gentle Leader, and is learning not to pull when she knows where she is going. When asked to wait, Poppy sits at road crossings and ignores the vehicles, and is good at navigating traffic bollards without getting tangled.
Poppy is good with kids and not interested in cats. She can be jealous of other dogs, especially in confined spaces in the home, and with some new dogs when out in the park, particularly at the initial meet and greet stage - she needs to be properly introduced whilst on lead first. She is currently living happily with a Kelpie who accepts Poppy as top dog.
Poppy loves a ride in the car, she stays in the back, mostly snuggling down to sleep. She doesn't bark excessively, but is a good watch dog and will let you know when someone is at the door. She doesn't dig up the garden or chew the retic. Poppy is crate trained and often chooses to slip into her crate for a nap.
Off lead Poppy is very ball focused and doesn't wander off and is learning to give up the ball for another throw. She is a confident, strong swimmer but is also happy to walk along the beach.
Poppy is a bouncy fun loving lady who can be taught new things. She learns quickly as she loves getting a treat when she gets things right. Coming up to you and sitting with you so you can pat her and praise her is her one of her favourite things to do anywhere and anytime. It’s nearly as good as lying close to you snoozing while you watch TV.
If you'd like to meet Poppy, please contact us by email to apply.
Medical notes
Poppy came to us with a chronic infection in the upper part of her left ear which is now well controlled following a visit to our vet for a flushing. Her treatment is now limited to flushing her ear with a saline solution and adding drops three times a week, plus taking a daily tablet. Her new family must be committed & diligent in continuing Poppy's treatment.
