Darcy ~ Dachshund (On Trial 9/10/16)

Darcy is a healthy 7.6 kg 7.5 old Dachshund; he is an easy going lounge lizard. He is very person orientated. He loves to curl up with you on the couch and follows you around the house or garden. But he also enjoys his “me” time playing with rope toys, lying in the sun or curling up in his blanket. He needs to be included in your day to day life.

Darcy shares the house with our resident dog but does not play with him [they tolerate each other and sleep together in the laundry] – he is definitely a people dog and would prefer to be the only pet in the house.
Darcy is house trained, comes when called and is learning to “sit” and “stay” on command. He walks well on the lead and gets quite excited to go for a walk or a ride in the car. He is standoffish with strangers and other dogs we meet but is not aggressive. He loves treats and tucks into his food. He eats dry food, bones, cooked rice and mince and cooked chicken.

Once he settles in with you and considers himself to be at home, he becomes a very good little guard dog, barking his deep bark when somebody comes to the door, but quickly settles down when he knows everything is ok.

Darcy came into care when his elderly owner died. He has issues with children and would be most suited to a retired person or couple who are home most of the time. He will be a very loyal and loving dog to anyone who gives him the caring home he deserves.
