About Marshmallow
Oh Marshmallow. Just look at that face! How can you not just fall head over heels for this little guy?!
Marshmallow is as sweet as his name and is pretty much irresistible. His beautiful fur is so soft and begs to be patted all day long. Marhsmallow has a lot of love to give and he will become a loyal and adoring companion in his perfect home. This chap needs a calm, quiet home with no children or loud dogs. Marshmallow has been in foster care for some 6 months now - originally he was trapped on a property in the Wheatbelt, taken to the local pound and at risk of being shot! (Can you even bear the thought?) Prior to this, he had never encountered people before, which means he kinda missed out on the critical socialisation period between 2 and 7 weeks of age. This doesn't mean he is doomed, it just meant he has taken some time to come round to how great people are!
He has lived in 3 different foster homes and made more progress in each - now it is time to find somewhere permanent, where he will be nurtured and cared for and get to give you all the love in his heart. Marshmallow now runs to his foster mum when she enters the room and he just loves pats and affection. He still doesn't enjoy being picked up and held and probably never really will but he just adores rubbing round and around your ankles.
Marshmallow will need to be an indoor-only cat as the great outdoors would be way too scary for him and he could easily become disorientated and panicked and end up lost, which would be heartbreaking! He is used to staying indoors in foster care and is very happy as long as he has a comfy spot in the sun, yummy food and of course an adoring human swooning over him. So far Marshmallow has always lived with other cats and it could be beneficial for him to go to a home with others, so that he has company and someone else to guide him and continue helping him grow and develop. So if you have a confident, friendly older cat this guy could be their new best mate.
Marshmallow's new family needs to understand that when he first arrives in his new home, this poor guy is going to be pretty terrified. He will need somewhere quiet and secluded (like a spare room) to live in the beginning while he settles in. Hopefully thanks to all the progress he has made in foster care, it won't take too long!
We know that this is all sounding like a lot of hard work, and in some ways it is because Marshmallow will require a significant time input from you. But the flip side of that is that it is just.so. worth it! The feeling of joy and satisfaction the first time you hear him purr will overwhelm you. The first time he ventures into a new part of the house unaided or jumps up beside you on the couch is likely to bring tears to your eyes.
Marshmallow is not responsible for how he is, it is not his fault that humans failed him from day one. He just needs time, patience and love.
If you can offer him that, we would love to hear from you! Please get in touch today.
Adoption details
Thank you for taking the time to view one of our lovely animals. We love them all and we hope you will too.
If you would like to know more about an animal please call Freedom on 0409 000 259. If it sounds like you and the furry creature are a suitable match then we will pass on the foster carer’s details to you so you can call and make a time to meet them.
Once you have met the animal and wish to go further then we may organise a yard check to ensure that your yard is safe and secure (dogs only). You can then take your new family member home on a 2 week trial and if you decide they are not suitable then you can return them.
If you are not sure how existing animals in your home might be affected, or you want a little extra time to get to know the nature of the animal, we may allow you to foster with a view to adopt.
