About Hugo ~ 3yo Mastiff x (On Trial 5/11/16)
Introducing Hugo – a loveable 3 year old Mastiff x hunk. There’s no love like the love of this big goofy boy – this super-sized smoocher is so affectionate that you can’t help but snuggle with him as though he is a tiny lap dog. Hugo is looking for a very special family or foster family to call his own.
Before coming into foster care Hugo had little interaction with other dogs or with many people at all – he lived his life in a cage where he could only just turn around. So although he is 3 years old he has only just started living life to the fullest and experiencing the luxuries of being part of the family. For this reason his adoptive family needs to ensure that Hugo gets quality family time each day, and continues to expose him to life’s joys that he has previously missed out on.
Hugo is currently in care as an only dog mainly due to his lack of socialisation with others. He is very curious of other dogs as he simply doesn’t know how to behave with them. He would benefit from an experienced dog lover who can help socialise him in a controlled and positive manner. Hugo loves his daily walk – due to him being such a large boy we’d suggest walking with a front clipping easy-walk harness or a head halti. He doesn’t need to go that far (he isn’t the most energetic big boy!) however he loves the sights and sounds when he’s out and getting to know his environment. He also loves to visit the water and have a paddle or play with the ball – so if you live near a lake or a beach he would feel right at home.
Hugo loves to sleep inside, however he will also be content sleeping in a warm, cosy kennel or on a kid’s size mattress in the garage out of the cold. He’ll hop up on your bed if he’s allowed, but he’s a bit of a bed hog!!! He loves toys, bones and playing games with his family. Originally he didn’t know what a ball was but he loves to play ball now.
Being such a big boy with such a bad start in life, we would like his forever home to consist of mainly adults, or a family with older teenagers who are confident with large dogs and who are respectful of their space. Hugo’s perfect family will be one who will continue his socialisation and who will spend time with his training and doggy manners as he has 3 years to catch up on. He thrives on routine and consistency. We always recommend training to give your new family member the best start adapting to their new home with you. All dogs and puppies need plenty of affection, exercise, and training.
If you believe you have that special quality and loads of love to help Hugo live his life to the fullest then please contact Kat on 0415 449 053 or email katlewis1987@gmail.com . Hugo is in foster care in Rutherford, NSW (west of Newcastle) and is available for adoption interstate.
Hugo's adoption fee is $350 and includes his desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
