About Ghost *On Trial in His New Home*
*GHOST IS CURRENTLY TRIALING HIS NEW HOME - NO MORE ENQUIRIES/APPLICATIONS PLEASE* Being born deaf and blind hasn’t slowed this beautiful, big boofer down in fact Ghost doesn’t know he’s any different to other dogs, and he’s just as smart if not smarter than many ‘normal’ ones. He’s looking for that special someone who can understand his limitations and accept him for the amazing pup he is – will it be with you?
Coming into foster care at 8 weeks old we knew he had sight issues although it wasn’t until he was away from his littermates (he was one of 12) that we realised he was also deaf. At Ghost’s first vet visit we were expecting the worst, but our vet decided he was such a happy, healthy fella that he announced “let’s give him a chance” then gave him his 1st vacc and sent him on his way. Since then, and thanks in total to his amazing foster carers, Ghost has come along in leaps and bounds even passing puppy school with flying colours! He will ‘sit’ immediately when he smells a treat (which he takes ever so gently) but he’s also learnt to ‘sit’, ‘drop’ and ‘rise’ using light pressure with a custom made rod to different spots on his body. Ghost has even learnt to walk on a lead wearing his special harness and staying close to his humans – he’s such a trusting soul. His incredible sense of smell means he gets a kick out of finding treats hidden in his specially made ‘snuffle mat’ (see photo), it keeps him entertained for ages!
We named him Ghost for obvious reasons though you can call him whatever you like because he won’t hear you; his carers call him “Clyde” as their own Lab x’s name is Bonnie and the two together make a formidable team! Ghost enjoys the company of other dogs – it’s hard to spot his disabilities when he’s rough and tumbling with Bonnie or the other pups in foster care. He likes toys, and a game of tug-o-war with his foster mum makes him super happy! As he’s never been alone Ghost will need a fun-loving, easy-going fur buddy in his forever home.

This friendly, affectionate over-sized puppy loves a smooch and a cuddle; Ghost thrives on human touch and likes to lean on you or even sit on you if he can get away with it! He does enjoy a dig but we’re not sure if this is just a puppy thing he’ll grow out of or if he really does love the sensation, either way you’ll need to be prepared for some backyard excavation work!
Ghost’s father is a purebred Great Dane while he gets his stunning ridge from his mum who is ¾ Great Dane x ¼ Rhodesian Ridgeback. He is toilet trained and well-behaved inside although he sleeps outside at night always curled up with Bonnie or with another foster pup as he likes to know he’s not alone. We are seeking a home that either has experience with deaf and blind dogs or someone willing to learn how to provide the best life possible for gorgeous Ghost while allowing him to enjoy an indoor / outdoor lifestyle – familiarity with the needs of large breed dogs would also be a necessity.

Adoption details
Please Note: SARG and our animals for adoption are located in Mildura in North-West Victoria.
Our adoption process commences with completing an Application form which you'll find at: www.sarg.net.au
The Application is then reviewed, references checked and a yard check done, then, if there are no issues, a meet and greet is organised. If all goes well the last stage is a 28 day home-trial to make sure that everyone is happy.
If the trial is successful our “stray” is then officially considered adopted and the microchip transferred into the new owners name.
If anything goes wrong SARG will always take back one of our animals :)
