About Darcy - Dachshund (on trial 8/10/16)
Darcy is a two year old Dachshund. He has the most loveable character, and is guaranteed to bring a smile to the face of everyone who meets him!
Darcy is very easy going, and loves nothing more to be curled up near to his foster mum, he is a little shadow following her everywhere she goes......He also loves, cuddling up on the couch, playing with rope toys, laying in the sun and hiding under blankets. Darcy definitely loves being a part of the family, and needs to be included in day to day life. He needs someone to be at home with him most of the time, as he does get a little sad when he is left home alone (even in the company of other dogs, as he just loves people so much).
Darcy is night house trained, and he sleeps through the night, happily sleeping in a crate or a bed, preferring to be as close as he can to a person. He does need to be reminded to go out to the toilet in the day, but is happy to go outside. He is very food orientated, loving chicken mince, and dry food the best! He is treat focused which is so helpful in his training.
Darcy doesn’t have any health or medical conditions, and is up to date with all his vaccinations. He is not a fan of the vets though, he was quite scared and really didn’t like the vet at all. We are working on creating a positive association with the vet, which his new owners will have to continue to work on.
Darcy gets on well with other dogs, he does like his own personal space, and will let the dog know if it gets too close. He is currently living with another Dachshund, a Labrador and a Greyhound without any issues. Darcy would prefer being an only dog, as he does like to think of himself as king of the house!
Darcy is a fantastic little guard dog, he only barks if someone comes to the front door, and stops as soon as he knows who is there. He comes when called, and is a quick learner, he would love further training and really enjoys learning new skills (we are currently working on ‘stay’ and ‘gentle’ when taking treats – which he has mastered so quickly). He walks well on the lead and gets so excited to go in the car, or for a walk!
Darcy is very loyal and knows how to make you feel loved. He would love a family where he is included in everything, he needs to be able to be with the family most of the time. Darcy is fine with older children, although he definitely prefers the company of adults!
Darcy is such a lovable little dog, and he cannot wait to meet the lucky people that get to be his forever!

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
