About Possum~Maltese x girl (on trial 20/09/16)
Possum is looking for her new home. She is an 8yr old maltese x girl, with a bubbly personality. She came into care very matted, so has very short hair at the moment, but when it grows, she is going to be a stunning little lady. Her foster mum thinks she is even going to have long black eyelashes! Possum has had all her vet work done and as she recovers, is beginning to show her personality.
First and foremost, she is a champion snuggler, preferring to be next to you on the couch than anywhere else in the world. She also prefers women to men, and bonds very quickly. Her foster mum says she is a fantastic helper dog, as she likes to be involved with whatever is happening. Possum is currently living with 4 other little dogs, and has no issues with them, however, she is much more people orientated.
She loves squeaky toys and will play fetch for as long as you care to, returning the object right at your feet quicker than Speedy Gonzales!
We are looking for a place where someone is home the majority of the time, where she will be an inside dog, and where there are no young children (as Possum is very small and fragile).
Possum can get upset when being left alone, however is responding very well to crate training. When her foster mum has to go out, she pops the possum into her crate with a treat, and she settles very quickly. Possum has also been sleeping in her crate overnight, however would prefer to sleep near her person. She is fully house trained and has not had one accident inside the house.
Once her hair grows back she is going to look beautiful, and to keep her in that condition, she will need regular grooming (eg. brushing regularly at home) and also a professional groom every few months.
If you would like to hear more about Possum, or set up a meeting with a view to adopting her, please contact Carolyn on 0403 653 001, or email cazza1952@gmail.com. Possum is currently being fostered in Singleton, NSW (north-west of Newcastle) and available for interstate adoption.
Possum’s adoption fee is $300 and she is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
