About Duke
Duke is a 4 year old collie x staffy but mostly he is like a smaller, short haired collie with floppy ears. He came to DBBR after being neglected, underweight and suffering from skin problems.
He is much happier in foster care and is being fed a careful diet to increase his weight and help his skin. He is under vet care regarding his skin which is improving, and this treatment needs to continue for a bit longer.
He has an extremely sweet personality, is affectionate, with good manners and behaviour. He walks nicely on the lead and knows basic commands such as sit, drop and stay. He enjoys his twice daily walks to the park and LOVES, LOVES, LOVES to play fetch with his ball. (He is slightly obsessed with playing fetch!) His recall is near perfect and he never goes far from his foster carer when out.
Given his previous poor treatment he is initially nervous of new people, dogs and situations and so requires good leadership to let him know the situation is safe. He is curious but wary of other dogs (of all sizes) so cautious and gentle introductions are required.
His current foster carer works shifts but Duke is perfectly happy to snooze away on the sofa whenever she is out at work (as observed on camera!) regardless of if it is day or night. He doesn’t whine or chew things and rarely barks.
Duke needs a home with people who will be gentle and patient with him and work to improve his confidence whilst providing plenty of physical and intellectual stimulation so he doesn’t get bored. He could go to a home where people work and would be fine. Younger children probably best avoided at this stage while he can still be a bit timid at times. Untested with cats.
