Bruno (D3340)

Bruno, aka Mr Personality, has a very loving nature. While he’s going to be big, in terms of being a good watch dog, he’s so friendly that he’d happily watch things being taken………….that kind of watch dog! He follows his foster carer around the house and lays at her feet, but he doesn’t know his size. He wants to sit on her lap! And at 10 months old, he weighs 24kg, the top of his head comes to mid-thigh on her and his paws are huge. He loves all the family and any visitors. He’s too big for small children, as being a teenager, he can jump up when he’s excited and that waggly tail is at the wrong height for them. This character can reach up to get things off shelves!

Bruno adores water, making it easy to exercise him. He’ll jump in to swim at the beach and fetch things, and chase the water stream while you’re hosing the garden. He has a big drinking tub and splashes it all over his feet. He loves playing with the older dog he’s in foster care with and follows his example. But he shows a bit too much interest in his foster carer’s caged birds, so we’re not sure about him with smaller pets like rabbits and cats. He’s cautious about strange dogs, and we’re working on increasing his socialisation with correct introductions. He’s very well behaved in the car despite being reluctant to get in, and getting skittish if they pass when he’s out walking.

Because of his size and love of companionship, Bruno would be ideal for someone who enjoys spending a lot of time with him, doing training with him and who will provide consistent, strong leadership. He has missed out on early training, so has been learning everything from scratch since he came to SAFE.

As well as human or dog companionship, twice daily exercise and being inside in a hot climate will be important for Bruno because otherwise he’ll turn to digging in the backyard.
