About Dexter *On Trial in His New Home*
*DEXTER IS CURRENTLY TRIALING HIS NEW HOME - NO MORE ENQUIRIES/APPLICATIONS PLEASE* If you are after a lovable young dog, without the worry of shoes going missing or cords being chewed, then Dexter is the boy for you!
Recently rescued from Broken Hill Pound, where he’d been picked up wandering the streets, Dexter is a very smart and super friendly boy who has outgrown most of that puppy silliness. He is currently living with an older dog that he is great mates with, and some chooks that he finds very interesting though doesn’t chase but he does like to chase cats so a cat-free household would be best.
Just the friendliest boy, Dexter loves treats and is so very gentle when taking them from your hand, but it’s humans that he responds to most and wants to please. Since coming into care this clever boy has picked up ‘sit’, ‘wait’, ‘on your mat’ and is learning to ‘high 5’. He enjoys going for walks and has recently started running beside a bike, he also likes visiting his foster carer’s farm and riding in their ute. Dexter is housetrained and is happiest when curled up with his humans close by, or even better, when he is having lots of pats and cuddles - his adoring gaze will make any day brighter and better! He also quickly got the hang of crate-training and will now put himself to bed in his crate if his foster parents stay up too late at night.
Dexter is not overly fond of loud noises and is a bit timid in new surroundings, so a quieter household with older children would be best. When first arriving in care he was a bit of an escape artist, and while this has lessened once he has settled and is confident in his surroundings, we would still recommend secure fencing in his forever home to keep him safe.
With his working dog genes Dexter will require regular exercise and stimulation in a home where he can continue to enjoy an indoor / outdoor lifestyle and be part of the household goings on. He’d be quite content to be an only dog so long as his humans weren’t at work for long hours as he does love attention and company.

Adoption details
Please Note: SARG and our animals for adoption are located in Mildura in North-West Victoria.
Our adoption process commences with completing an Application form which you'll find at: www.sarg.net.au
The Application is then reviewed, references checked and a yard check done, then, if there are no issues, a meet and greet is organised. If all goes well the last stage is a 28 day home-trial to make sure that everyone is happy.
If the trial is successful our “stray” is then officially considered adopted and the microchip transferred into the new owners name.
If anything goes wrong SARG will always take back one of our animals :)
