About Benji ~ Maltese x, 7yo (on trial 22/08/16)
Introducing beautiful boy Benji, a gorgeous white and caramel 7yo Maltese cross. Benji is an absolute delight. He is a happy little soul that loves going for his walks but is then quite content to come home and rest beside you. He loves to chill with his humans, preferably as close to them as possible. He loves been lavished with attention and adores tummy rubs, from anyone including my 10 year old daughter to adults.
To pick him up , you would think he was a rag doll cat. Nothing seems to unsettle him. He gets on beautifully with the 3 other small dogs in the house. He appeared comfortable with them from day one and happily met them with a tail wag and a sniff. He seldom barks except when startled by a loud noise.
On his walks, he is very happy to walk on a lead or harness. He has met cats on his adventures and whilst he was curious about them, he quickly moved on. Similarly with caged birds in our house. He is fascinated by the their sounds but is easily distracted away from them.
Benji loves going for drives and is always excited about finding new places to sniff and explore. He also loves his food and is the first to announce that it is time for his tea. He is mostly toilet trained but has had the occasional accident. This could partly be because he is getting used to his new surrounds or just a bit of male one upmanship with the other male dog in the house. Some further training in his forever home I am sure would solve this.
Benji will play with his toys sometimes but hasn’t quite got the hang of fetch. He is also a bit unsure about the doggy door but it could be a bit small for him. He is a clever boy though and I think with a bigger doggy door and some tempting treats on the other side, Benji would get the hang of it in no time. He is an inside dog and needs to be allowed inside, at least when people are home, and to sleep inside.
Benji has a low shedding coat which needs regular brushing (every few days depending on length), bathing (every few weeks) and clipping (every 4 to 8 weeks) to keep him comfortable and beautiful.
Benji is an absolute delight. A friendly little man that has taken to everyone in the house in a short time and who has won the hearts of everyone who has met him. And although he loves his walks and getting out and about, if there is a human sitting or sleeping anywhere in the house, Benji will find and join you, all ready to curl up and keep you company.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
