About Nelson Muntz
Meet Nelson Muntz, a 12 year old blue heeler.
He is an old guy who just wants to hang out with his human’s and will follow them everywhere they go in the house….and we mean everywhere! He really enjoys a scratch behind his ears or on his tummy and his favourite place in the house (second only to right behind his humans) is in front of the heater.
Nelson has a few old man issues with a bit of arthritis in his back legs which make him a bit wonky and a minor heart murmur. None of these conditions are requiring any treatment at this point but will require monitoring in the future. His mobility has improved significantly since he has been out of the pound so we believe he may have been out of condition which makes his arthritis worse.
He is house trained and will tell you when he needs to go outside or when he thinks it’s breakfast time. It appears that he might be familiar with sit and drop, but he is reluctant to do due to his hips.
The vet tells me that Nelson may have some vision issues, but he seems to be able to see dogs across the park or walking past the house perfectly well.
Nelson does not need much exercise due to his age – he loves a slow ramble around the park each day but will sleep for the rest of the day when he gets home. He currently lives on a small inner city block and is coping quite well with this environment.
Nelson is being fostered in a house with a large female dog. He is not one that plays too much, but they do hang out together, particularly in front of the fire on a cold day.
Nelson’s perfect home would be one where his humans are home most of the time and he is allowed to live inside. He would be ok with a quiet dog to spend his days with. Nelson would be best in a house without small children as they might accidentally topple on him.
It’s important that his new owners are aware that his heart murmur will need monitoring and he may need medication in the future, but in return they will get a gorgeous little dog that just wants to be loved and love them in return for the rest of his days.
