About Millie ~ 2yo Maltese girl (On trial 31/7/16)
Millie is a 2 year old Maltese girl with an old soul. She is a quiet and loving dog who is hoping to find someone to love her.
It takes her a while to trust that you won’t hurt her and she is slowly becoming more playful, however, she is happiest when she is sitting on your lap. She adores a belly rub and throws herself backward on your lap to encourage this.
She is nervous initially around new dogs, especially bigger ones, but gets on well with my other 2 dogs. She likes to be close to you and would need to be an indoor dog with access to outside. Millie has been sleeping in the laundry of a night time and after the first few days there have been no accidents inside. After the first 1-2 days she started using the doggy door to go to the toilet but needs to be encouraged out late at night when it’s quite cold (her coat had to be shaved right back when she first came into foster care. As a result, she wears a jacket of a night to keep her warm till her hair grows back fully).
Millie would suit an older person or couple as she is quite timid, but very loving. She would thrive in a home on her own as the other dogs do tend to dominate her and would eat her food given the opportunity! However, in her own quiet way she can be quite determined. She will dance around the kitchen when I am preparing the meals, but won’t come near the bowls until I call her.
Millie walks well on a lead, but loud noises do startle her. She can sit on command, but takes a bit of coaxing as usually the other 2 are trying to steal her treats. She travels well in the car. She has not come into contact with cats so I’m not sure how she would go - she is not aggressive so probably would be fine, but would need to meet them to be sure.
Overall, she is a quiet, loving little girl who would thrive in the right environment. If you are willing to take the time to earn her trust, she will be a very loyal and loving companion.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
