Lucy ~ 2yo Silky Terrier girl (On Trial 27/7/16)

Lucy is a 2 year old silky terrier and is a bright, playful young girl.

She loves tearing around the house and yard, chasing our puppy and vice versa. She adores the basket of toys and usually chooses the one with the loudest squeaker first thing in the morning! She races around the house growling like crazy to herself then races back to you to get you to play too. There is no aggression - this just seems to be how she likes to play.

Lucy gets on well with our other 2 dogs although she is very strong willed which can sometimes lead to small clashes. She tends to like to be closer to you than the other dogs, which upsets them, especially when she usually lands on them when jumping onto your lap!

I feel that previously she may have had to scrounge for any food she could get as she is quite determined to be the first one fed and if left unattended, she will eat the other 2 dog’s meals as well. She is getting better with this - it has just taken some time for her to realise she will be fed every morning and night and not have to go hungry. As soon as I walk into the study she is beside me as this is where the food and treats are kept.

Lucy likes to be close to you and would need to be an indoor dog with access to outside. Lucy was very quick to learn to use the doggy door to go to the toilet and has been sleeping in the laundry of a night with no accidents after the first couple of nights. She tends to pace when she is anxious or wants to go out if the door has been closed, just to let you know.

Lucy walks well on a lead and knows basic commands such as sit and drop. She does know wait, but when it comes to food, it’s still a bit hit and miss. She travels well in a car. She has not come into contact with cats so I’m not sure how she would go - she is not aggressive so may be fine, but would need to meet them to be sure.

Lucy would suit an active family (or couple) that she can be a part of as she is desperate to be loved. She would suit a home with or without another dog although she will always want to be closest to you. She has a funny way of standing on your chest to say hello, staring intently into your eyes, but will settle on your lap once she feels secure. She loves sitting on your lap and getting her ears rubbed.
