Kalani

Kalani is a beautiful young kelpie girl looking for a special home to adore her. She is an absolute pleasure to be around, with just a touch of cheekiness!
Curious and interested, Kalani loves her people and is a genuinely good natured soul. She adores nothing more than being involved in the day to day goings on - always ready to jump in the ute tray, or zoom after the four wheel motorbike. Kalani is sensible and stays out of the way at livestock feeding time or when machines are in use. Kalani enjoys hanging out with you while you work. She stretches up and places her paws on the workshop bench to watch you, or nudges her head under your arm so you don’t forget she is there.
Kalani loves tossing bones and her hippo toy about on the grass, or doing little crazy runs along the deck in the mornings! Being a young dog, she occasionally can’t resist stealing a shoe or having a little chew on the corner of her bed.
Kalani enjoys the company of other dogs. Her pure joy for play is adorable, and even her haughty older kelpie foster sisters eventually succumb to her exuberant leaps and pawing, in between affectionate nose licks, to coax them into a game. Kalani dutifully follows the leadership of her doggie friends, although she will try and sneakily move up the hierarchy if a soft natured visiting dog lets her take its dinner or bed! Kalani is a little underexposed to the big wide world and she is far from a canine social butterfly. She is still learning to walk on the lead and her nervousness at coming across other dogs can cause her hackles to rise as she finds the initial meeting daunting. Kalani is a country girl at heart, and the open space would suit her much better than busy streets and dog parks!
Kalani is a clever girl, yet she does not have very much formal obedience training. She has learnt to sit and wait for her dinner, and stays on her bed in the living room in the evenings (most of the time!). Kalani has a good recall, although needs the odd reminder when there are distractions! Kalani likes to travel in the ute, although must be reminded to not bark at the passing traffic and blurring scenery. She is learning to wait quietly in the tray while you are busy running errands. Kalani is fostered on acreage with farm fencing and she does not wander when you are home. She quietly goes in her secure dog yard when left home alone – a bone helps keep her entertained!
Kalani doesn’t bother the horses in the paddock, although she needs restraining when you are working them at times, as the temptation to run around with them is too great. She does love to tag along on a ride out in the paddocks or bush. Kalani is fine with the chooks and doesn’t chase wildlife.
Kalani loves her humans most of all. She snuggles up for a cuddle if you sit down with her and wags her tail furiously when you call her over for a special pat. Kalani is a gorgeous, enthusiastic girl and will need a home that keeps her keen mind engaged. A rural home would suit her well, and a family with time to spend with her.
Kalani - meaning “the heavens” - is truly a heavenly young kelpie with her whole life ahead of her and plenty of love to give her lucky future owners.
