About Paddy ~ Jack Russell (on trial 16/09/16)
Paddy is a fun and affectionate 6 year old Jack Russell - this friendly little chap is curious and has a zest for life. Paddy loves to be wherever you are, whether that’s outside sunning himself in the yard, helping you with gardening or chores, or settling in to watch TV with you on the couch at night.
Paddy absolutely adores children - he's very gentle and loves to show them just how much he loves them by giving them licks and following them around like a shadow. He is in care with 3 kids (aged from 3 years to teenagers) and he's great with them all. He will put his paws on their lap for attention and chase chew toys when thrown (he hasn't grasped the concept of bringing them back to you though!). He also loved to run around the yard playing chasings - he would make an ideal best mate and companion for a dog loving child.
Paddy is in foster care with 3 other small dogs of various ages and he interacts well with them. Paddy hasn't had much socialisation prior to coming in to foster care so he finds everything very new and exciting. He can sometimes be in other dogs’ faces a little too much, so he still needs time and consistent training to learn doggy etiquette in relation to respecting other dogs’ personal space. Paddy likes to chase cats and chickens so he is best suited to a home with no pocket pets.
Paddy is still learning basic commands like sit and wait (what's that?!) and he responds well to treats. He loves food so he would excel at advance training or dog sports like agility . Paddy has been an outside dog his whole life so he is very new to being allowed inside and the toilet training that comes with that. He sleeps at night in a warm cosy crate inside and is happy as larry on his own sleeping overnight. As with the Jack Russell breed, he is very smart so with time and commitment to all aspects of his training he will make up for lost time.
Paddy is best suited to an active couple or a home with children. He's the perfect family dog. A fenced yard where he can play chasings would make him very happy. He is adventurous so he would love a walk every day so he can explore and have a good sniff. He is OK if left with his canine friends when you go out, however he would like a home where he is allowed indoors a lot and where he is included as part of the family always.
For more information or to meet Paddy, please contact Karen on plumb2a@bigpond.com or 0411 263 304 (outside business hours please). Paddy is in foster care near Gosford on the NSW Central Coast, and is not available for adoption interstate.
Paddy's adoption fee is $350 and includes his desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au
Medical notes
Paddy has some skin sensitivities from living outdoors all his life, he also has what looks like pressure sores on some of his toes. He is already responding well with a good diet, regular baths and some topical lotion on his skin.
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
