About Xena ~ On Hold 3/9/16
Xena is a 4 month old, female, medium sized, mixed breed puppy. She is a playful puppy with no behavioural issues. She lives with 3 kids aged 9, 6 & 2 years and they love her to bits. She is gentle, patient, and never jumps up on them. They love having snuggles on the floor with her and playing wrestles with her toys. Xena is not boisterous and exhibits a very calm demeanour. When she meets other dogs she is polite and initiates normal puppy play, which is not too rough or pushy.
Xena shares a home with 3 free-range backyard chooks and a cat and she is fine with them all. She learned to use the doggy door in a matter of hours and has house trained herself for the most part. She has just lost her baby teeth and her adult teeth are growing through. She loves chewing on her toys while she adjusts to these new teeth!
Xena is quite content to sleep on her own bed on the floor in our bedroom. She loves being on her mat with her chew toys while we watch TV or cook dinner. As long as she can see us she is happy, but doesn’t have the need to be on us, or our couch or our bed.
Xena started puppy school in June. She knows sit, and is learning come, wait, stay, down, drop and leave it. She walks well on lead and enjoys a daily stroll and romp around the park. If it’s too wet to go out she keeps busy with a game of tug-o-war with her foster sister or kid siblings. She is still learning about fetch, and watches her foster sister play it zealously! Xena plays nicely off lead and never goes far; she is learning to come back promptly when called. She is not a barker. She does not join in when other dogs bark or whine. She is very quiet and low maintenance. She is happy to be left at home with her foster sister. They have indoor access when home alone and they take good care of the house while I’m out.
Xena is the most placid, endearing puppy. When her tail wags her whole butt shakes with it! She is happy to be held and cuddled but is most content at your feet chewing toys on her bed. Being a puppy, Xena would love a home with another dog to play with and teach her doggy ways. She needs to be walked each day and have someone around more then they’re away. She needs to be showered with love and made part of the family and allowed inside. Xena would be great with children of any age and is happy around other pets in the family. If you’re looking for the perfect addition to your family, Xena is your girl.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
