MAGGIE HAS GONE ON TRIAL.

Meet Maggie.

Maggie is believed to be aged between 3-4. She's a Beagle (possibly crossed with a Basset Hound but we don't know for sure). Maggie has been in care for approx 4.5 months & for 3 of those she has been living with myself, my family & 1 other rescue Beagle pictured in the photo below - Lola.

Maggie was rescued from a puppy farm so has not lead the most wonderful life. She is extremely scared of all things but in saying that, it is also clear that she would love to be part of the family. In her time here she has come out of her shell considerably. She just needs someone to work with her & be kind & patient. Maggie is fine with our 2 resident cats, really not interested in them. She is great with our children but is especially fearful of my teenage son & husband. I do feel this is exacerbated by Lola's fear as Maggie is very much a follower & will look to Lola for guidance (Lola has an extreme fear of males when in our yard, is much better when away from the home).

Maggie is a real character, she's a talker, she loves to play with toys & steal shoes etc if you leave them outside. I think Maggie will make a lovely companion, it will just take time. She is dog friendly & must go to a home with another canine as I feel she wouldn't cope well in a human only household.

Maggie (& Lola) have been living outside as they are not very comfortable being in the house, although Maggie is very curious & will come in if the door is left open. She use to run out at first glance of a human but is getting better. Both furkids have been coming inside for a few hours each night in recent weeks & are slowly adjusting. Maggie has actually started waiting at the back door & even pawing at it. This does not mean she will enter once it's opened but a great step forward nevertheless.

Maggie comes up to date with vaccination's, flea/worm treatment. She is microchipped & desexed & has been vet checked.

Maggie is on a weight management plan & has lost some weight since being in care. She will need to continue on this.

As mentioned Maggie is child & cat friendly but due to her fearfulness I would recommend a home with children over 5 yrs who can understand they must be gentle & calm with Maggie. I would also like to see her go to a home where you're not away all day everyday. In my home we work but don't leave till 9am in the mornings & someone is home just after 3pm each day.

Other things about Maggie:
she snorts.
she snores
she won't take food from your hand (yet)
she travels well in the car
she doesn't love a bath & nail clip but tolerates these well
She's not housetrained as far as I know but has not had an accident at anytime she has been in our house to date...
