About Pepper
Meet Pepper.
Pepper has come from a breeding establishment, she's had very little, if any socialisation with people or surroundings.
We have had pepper in care for around five months, she has improved so much in this time, but will still have a long road ahead. Pepper is in foster care and lives with a couple of other dogs, cats and rabbits, and is fantastic with all of her other housemates.
Pepper is fully toilet trained and is currently learning to walk on the lead.
When Pepper first arrived in foster care, she was extremely shut down, would run and hide just to be as far away from people as possible and did not want to have anything to do with her foster parents. Pepper is probably one of the worst cases we have ever had.
Pepper will now after a lot of time, patience and trust will play ball, and happily wander around the house with the rest of the dogs, she is now interacting with her foster parents and lets them Pat her, brush her as well as throw the ball for her to chase, but this is after a very long time in their care, but unfortunately this by no means, means that she will do the same in a new home, because she may revert back to her old self and will need time to adjust to help her regain the trust of her new owners.
We feel, that Pepper would really benefit from finding a home of her own.
We would love to find her a home with another dog who will want to be with her and possibly play with her, Pepper absolutely loves her foster parents cats and will often be licking them and trying to play with them.
Pepper will need someone who is home a lot, who is willing to put in the time, patience and effort to help gain her trust, to do so her foster parents would sit on the floor and wait until she was ready to approach whilst also softly talking to her in a calm manner, this did take months of slow, calm interactions to help her learn to trust them but when she does allow someone to pet her or brush her these small actions are celebrated because we know how hard it is to be able to do these things with her.
Pepper is not a dog where you can walk/run up to, to pat or cuddle, even when playing as she will run away, she needs to be approached slowly and calmly to best make her feel comfortable with your presence, this is hard but the rewards are far greater when you do finally get to pet her/sit on the floor with her, it is a really special feeling.
But by all means act as you normally would in your home do not molly coddle her, do what you would normally do during your day as this will help her understand your routines and personalities, it is only when approaching her that you need to be calm and patient.
Pepper is very much a background dog, she does her own thing and once comfortable she will play on her own or with another dog.
Pepper does not trust easily, and may not ever completely trust you, but she deserves a loving home where it is okay if Pepper never trusts you, but where she will always be loved even from a distance and cared for.
We would also love to find somebody who has had experience with breeding establishment dogs although this is not a requirement.
We need a person who is going to be 100% committed to pepper for the rest of her life, we won't lie to you breeding establishment dogs are hard work, but the improvements they make every day is so rewarding it makes it all worth it.
