AJ ~ Papillon x Chi - On hold for medical reasons

Hi! I'm AJ and I'm a 7 year old male Papillion x Chihuahua. I am an absolute gem – a bit of a diamond in the rough says my foster mummy! I am a sweet boy and a cheeky imp all in one which makes me even more lovable. I’m a special boy who is on the search for a very special lady who can be my new mummy furever

I’m affectionate and loving once I get to know you, however I’m shy and reserved with people I don’t know – especially men and visitors. I warm up well with ladies - I ask for attention by putting my paws on you, or by nudging you with my nose. My biggest wish in the world is to have a quiet life, in a quiet home, with a lady (or ladies) without a lot of people coming and going. I’m more of a one or two person dog – once I bond with you I’ll be your loyal loving companion. I'm trying really hard to get used to meeting new people (I love treats so food bribery helps) - my new mum needs to have patience and love to continue to help me feel confident with others

My foster mum says I’m one of the most easy going foster dogs she’s ever had the joy to look after – I’m so content and happy to laze the day away or play with my beloved soft toys. I throw my toys in the air and trot around the house with them in my mouth. I’m in foster care with 2 adult dogs and 5 cats whom I get along well with

I love my early morning and late night walks – I am a dream to walk on lead, I just trot along with my foster brother Ludo with my head held high and a big smile on my face. When I see other dogs I will bark at them in my husky smokers-cough voice. Once I meet them I will happily join them for a walk – I’m just vocal about it at first

I attend weekly doggy play dates to help with my socialisation with other friendly dogs and their owners. It’s my favourite time of the week – all the other dogs run around and I just hang out and meet the other adults in a relaxed environment. Everyone knows I can be timid at first so they give me lots of space (and treats!) - I have learnt to trust some of them so I will climb on to their laps and ask for cuddles

I’m best suited to a home with women around 40 - 70 years, either as an only dog or with another calm adult dog. A home with men or children is not for me. I am very fearful of men or children in the home as I've been very traumatised in the past. So if your children have left the nest or you have no desire to be married then I might be a good match for you! I need a new mum who will commit to meeting me a few times to help me feel safe, and who will continue with slow and positive introductions to other people and friendly dogs.
