Pete - Our beautiful cuddly deaf boy

Beautiful handsome friendly Pete makes everyone fall head over heels in love in minutes of meeting him. He is gentle, affectionate and just wants to please you.

He is young and needs some basic manners training but once he knows what is expected of him, he kindly obliges.

Pete is deaf -So training him isn't difficult but you would need to be prepared to teach him using sign language.

After only a week of being in foster care he has begun watching our hands when we are talking to him and following our directions/commands. He will sit, stay outside the open back door until invited in, and stop what he is doing when given a warning signal.

The sign lanugage we are using is just a few simple commands and can easily be continued by his new owners and with practice and patience it will become a strong reliable way of communicating with him in the future.

Deaf dogs can also be taught recall - at this stage he uses his foster brother and sister to know when he's being called- as he is happy to follow their lead. So a home with another dog who already has training would help him reach his full potential in no time.

Pete loves to cuddle and has no concept he isn't lap dog size. He gives the most amazing cuddles and will gentle place his nose up under your chin and fall asleep. And you have never seen a more sound and peaceful sleep than that of a deaf dog.

During the day he is happy to hang outside with our other dogs and has made no attempt to escape but if we are home and he is left outside on his own he has been showing some separation anxiety related behaviors, such as pacing, scratching at the door and sometimes crying to be let in.
Using a warning signal he is getting better at coping and soon settles in his outside kennel until invited in. Inside he is toilet trained, cat friendly, will stay on his bed, out of the kitchen, off the couch unless invited and is trained to sleep all night in a crate.

Whoever meets Pete will fall in love immediately but please consider the commitment & time needed training a deaf dog to help Pete become the loyal family companion he so desperately wants to be.
