About Carla ~ mini foxy, 8yo (On Trial 28/5/16)
Carla, Mini Fox Terrier, 8 years old. Are you the special person who has the time and patience to gain the trust of this lovely, but very timid, dog? If you are you will be rewarded with a faithful companion for life.
Carla's life until she was rescued by DRN was as a breeding dog on a puppy farm. She had little or no training or socialisation and as a result was extremely frightened when she arrived in care with us over four months ago. She was too scared of the outside world to leave our yard – it took weeks of cuddles and treats for her to trust us to go for a short walk. Now she comes when called and sits up to have her lead put on. She is still wary of strange noises and big dogs and people we meet but is now at the stage that she will sit quietly, though at the end of the lead behind us, while we chat. She loves meeting little dogs when we go to the local dog beach. She was inside with us during the recent thunder storms and was a little unsure of the thunder.
Carla gets on well with our dog and loves to play with them. She has a low shedding coat. Carla is house trained -though there has been a couple of “accidents”. She's an inside dog and has learned to use the doggy door. She sleeps indoors in her dog bed and we are greeted enthusiastically every morning. She has not shown any aggression and does not object when food or bones are taken from her.
Carla is a quiet dog and rarely barks. She does not like to be left alone but this may improve as she gains confidence. Typically she will avoid children, when they do interact with her she is very gentle. Carla is wary of men but bonds quickly with women. She would be an ideal dog for a family where someone is at home during the day or who have another friendly dog that can give her the companionship she needs. She would be perfect for an older person or couple.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
