Diesel - Maltese x Shih Tzu (Trial 13/8/16)

Diesel is a Maltese x Shih-Tzu and is about 3 ½ years old. Diesel has a cheeky, playful personality and has earned the nickname “Cheezel”! He’s a gorgeous boy who also loves a cuddle.

Diesel is great with kids but is prone to becoming excited and a bit “nippy” sometimes. I have a seven year old son that just adores him (yes, it will be hard to let Diesel go… he has really grown on us!). He loves being inside the home and being part of the family.

Diesel would benefit from ongoing training (he will sit & come for Schmackos). We have had to toilet train Diesel which he picked up very quickly but I would recommend that you take him out to the toilet on a regular basis especially before bed and when he first wakes up to ensure there are no accidents inside. We have also used a puppy training pad on the back deck which has been a bit hit and miss.

Please ensure that Diesel is on a harness when outside as once he wriggled out of his collar and ran down the street investigating the neighbourhood. He has no road sense and took quite a bit of coaxing to come back (Schmackos helped!). We are teaching him to sit and stay when we open the door, however, still be cautious here.

Diesel loves to wrestle soft toys & cushions and is also a bit of a shoe stealer! To curb this, we ensure that Diesel has “his” toys to play and wrestle with. Keep your shoes out of reach! He also loves soccer balls.

Like any dog, he would prefer to be in a home where someone is home quite a lot, however, we have found that he has quickly adapted to our busy routine of coming and going from the house and has learnt to use our doggy door. He will sit on our bed or lounge in the sunshine when we are not home listening to the radio.

I’m not sure if Diesel would suit a home with a cat… he may just hide from it! And I feel that he would prefer to be the only dog in the house, however, if you already have a dog, we would have to assess this on an individual basis as it would depend on the dog.

Diesel enjoys going for walks and loves the beach! We took him to Redhead Beach and he just loved exploring and walking in the creek.

Overall he is a gorgeous boy and enjoys being part of a family!
