About Jake ~ 7mo Kelpie X boy (on trial 26/06/16)
There’s no love like a Kelpie’s love! Our boy Jake is no exception to the rule. At 7 months he is nearly full size and is a happy healthy pup! As a Kelpie X, he is smart and energetic and much more of a smoocher than you might expect! He is the first one to run across the yard when someone walks out the door and he literally falls over himself backwards for pats and praise. He has a gorgeous soft, shiny coat and adores people’s company.
Jake is currently in care with another Kelpie pup and a 4 yr old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He and the pup spend hours rough and tumbling, they each get on a side of the puppy pen, one zigs, the other zags and then a game of chasings ensues around the yard. It is hilarious to watch! Jake has cleverly figured out our Cav does not take enjoyment out of such pursuits and will give him a sniff and a lick and leave him be.
He has 2 human foster siblings, 9 and 13 and he adores them. Whilst he has been in care with a bub, he is still learning his manners and that not everyone enjoys being jumped on. He would need supervision with smaller kids and continuing training with good manners, so as not to knock anyone over. He has not shown a single sign of aggression around kids or food and having kids to grow up with and play with would be on his wish list!
We are working on his basic obedience. As he is very food driven, he is learning quickly, however it would be great for his forever family to have had some experience both with training a young dog and understanding the needs of a working breed. A large yard with secure fencing is an absolute must as are a daily walk and stimulation with games, etc. He enjoys having a treasure hunt with treats around the yard.
Jake currently sleeps outside in his kennel, but enjoys evening time inside being with the family. He has had no accidents inside and does not bark too often. Being a pup, he would definitely like the company of another dog and a home where he is not left alone for large blocks of time. He is a great family dog!
For more information or to meet Jake, please contact his foster carer Lauren on 0432 398 242 or email hitthesand@hotmail.com. Jake is in foster care in Salamander Bay, NSW (north of Newcastle) and is available for adoption interstate.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
