About Sketch
Dermot Mulroney, George Clooney, Barack Obama, John Slattery, Alec Baldwin, I’d say I’m right up there in that top ‘Silver Fox’ league! Just take a look at my pictures. I’m quite a big, handsome grey-haired gent, which means there’s more of me to love! But unlike some of my look-a-like celebs, you’ll find I’m an easy going and low-maintenance guy.
All I want to do is smooch, sleep, eat, throw my toys up in the air for a bit and find my own human to lay on and cuddle with. I’m so relaxed, I could suit any home really.
I’ve had a bit of bad luck and found myself with feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). It’s a bit similar to HIV in humans, although not as severe, and definitely not transmissible to people. I don’t require ongoing medication, or much additional care. I just need a good quality diet and annual vet checks. And because I have a weaker immune system, I need to be kept indoors (or with access to a cat run). If I get injured or ill, I may take longer to recover than most cats and could need a little extra TLC. In good care, I may have a normal life-span of over 15 years. If you have any questions or concerns about FIV, my foster carer would be happy to give you more info and advice.
Other cats and dogs? They don’t really phase me at all. In fact, the cat I’m sharing my foster home with (who’s also an FIV positive feline) is quite besotted with me. Before she met me, she hated and viciously attacked every cat she met eyes with. But she’s a complete pussy cat with me - even lets me pounce on her tail with no complaints. That’s the silver fox effect you see!
Medical notes
Sketch is in excellent physical health for a cat of his age. He is a carrier of FIV, the feline immunodeficiency virus. FIV is similar to HIV in humans, however it is definitely not transmissible to people and it is generally understood to be a less-severe condition. FIV positive cats in general do not require on-going medication (Sketch doesn't) and they can live to have normal life-spans of over 15 years.
They don't require much additional care when compared to any other cat - a good quality diet, annual vet checks and a vet visit if they seem unwell.
Because they have a weaker immune system, cats with FIV who are injured or ill may have a longer recovery time and could need a little extra care to help them.
FIV positive cats need to be kept strictly indoors only (or with access to a cat run) as they can potentially pass the virus along to other cats in the neighbourhood.
Sketch gets on very well with other cats and could be adopted to a home with an existing FIV positive feline as he would enjoy the company!
If you have questions or concerns about the virus, please don't hesitate to ask
Adoption details
Thank you for taking the time to view one of our lovely animals. We love them all and we hope you will too.
If you would like to know more about an animal please call Freedom on 0409 000 259. If it sounds like you and the furry creature are a suitable match then we will pass on the foster carer’s details to you so you can call and make a time to meet them.
Once you have met the animal and wish to go further then we may organise a yard check to ensure that your yard is safe and secure (dogs only). You can then take your new family member home on a 2 week trial and if you decide they are not suitable then you can return them.
If you are not sure how existing animals in your home might be affected, or you want a little extra time to get to know the nature of the animal, we may allow you to foster with a view to adopt.
