About Ellie
Since coming into care Ellie, with help of her foster mum Jenny and her fur foster brother Gizmo, has gained confidence and skills.
Due to her very neglected past, she can still be a fearful little girl in certain circumstances who will need an owner with patience and a gentle manner. Experience with dogs who have had past trauma would be an advantage in helping her.
In care, she has emerged as a sweet natured, affectionate girl with no dominance issues, no aggression towards pocket pets or cats and is dog friendly. Ellie is now house trained and has learned to walk energetically and co-operatively on a lead in her harness. She sleeps through the night in her crate (with the door open) in her carer's bedroom next to our dog. She is very good in the car and enjoys her outings
Ellie has a gorgeous, soft, non-shedding, shaggy coat that will require regular brushing and trimming. Whilst Ellie has become used to regular brushing is still not all that taken with the process:) Ellie came to us swarming in fleas with her lovely coat so badly matted she had dreadlocks so Ellie would not have been washed, brushed or flea treated in her life!!
To ensure Ellie continues her transformation and keeps up her progress, she does have specific needs for her new home listed below:-.
Another calm, similarly sized dog in the home that she can learn and draw strength and confidence from. Although she is developing a playful manner Ellie does not know how to play with another dog and is frightened of toys. She is intimidated by young, playful dogs.
As a result of previous health issues a fresh, mostly raw food diet with no cereal products or preservatives. This means no commercial dog food.
A quiet home with either a retired person/couple or with someone who works from home where people are not coming and going often. Ellie will take time to settle in her new home and will have problems bonding with someone who is away from the home a lot either working or with other pursuits. Ellie has come such a long way, however she is still fearful of people that she is not familiar with including people within the family who are away for long periods of time.
A home without younger children as she can become frightened of their quick movements.
At least 2 energetic walks a day in her harness on lead with her doggy companion. She has discovered walking (on leash) with great enthusiasm so needs someone able to walk her daily.
A secure yard and a home where no-one might accidently leave the front door or gate open. Ellie must have access inside and out at all times.
No walking aids such as walking sticks, crutches etc
We know this is a very specific list but know this is the type of home that would suit Ellie the best.
We would love to hear from you if you are able to provide Ellie with the second-chance forever home that she needs.
Ellie is in foster care in Caringbah in Sydney's South.
