About Russell ~ kelpie x cattle (on trial 14/05/16)
Introducing Russell (affectionately known as "Russ"), a 15 week old kelpie x cattle dog puppy. He is an absolute charmer with his gentle, sweet personality - he's really a big softie. He didn't have the best start to life and is enjoying being well fed, having a warm place to sleep and getting lots of love. He responds with absolute adoration and loyalty.
Russell is happiest when he is at your feet, by your side or just wherever you go. He is extremely people focused and is eager to please. He really is a remarkable puppy, in only a short time with his carer, he has learnt to sit for his dinner, to walk beside you on a lead and sleeps soundly all night in his crate. Russell is happy to be left in the backyard so long as he has lots of toys to keep him occupied, he doesn't bark or fret. He must be able to sleep inside with his family.
Russell also loves kids and is very gentle. He doesn't jump or nip. He is currently living with 5 and 3 year old girls and gives them lots of puppy kisses. He's even learning to return the toys to them when they throw it for him. He is also living with a 2 year old staffy foster brother who he enjoys running around with.
Given that Russell is still very young he would benefit from someone willing to continue his training. We always recommend puppy preschool to assist with training and socialization. Russell will grow to be a medium to large size dog, he will require a good size yard to run around in and 6 ft fences. He will also require daily exercise.
Russ is still too young to be left alone for long periods therefore he will need someone who doesn't work full time. Being still a baby, he requires a nutritious and balanced meal twice per day. He is currently eating a mix of puppy wet food and puppy dry mix as well as rice and vegetables.
As Russell is not yet desexed, he is only available for adoption in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Central Coast and Port Stephens because he will need to be returned to one of our vets at 5 or 6 months of age to be desexed.
For more information or to meet Russell, please contact his carer Sarah by email sarahtauaisili@hotmail.com (preferred) or send a txt to 0419986507. Russell is in care in Aberglasslyn NSW (Near Maitland).
Russell's adoption fee is $500 which includes vaccinations, desexing, worm and flea treatment, microchipping and lifetime registration. You can see all our dogs available at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
