Max ~ Chihuahua x, senior boy (on trial 12/06/16)

Max is a 9 year old Chihuahua cross (the cross being unknown). He is very affectionate and loves to be touched, he certainly loves his time on the lap while being adored and patted. In his own way he asks if he can get on your lap by placing his front paws on your lap first and looks at you for approval before settling and getting comfortable.

Max is very food orientated and is not a fussy eater and even enjoys a little banana of a morning with his foster dad before breakfast. He loves his treats but can be protective of his food. We believe this is due to his past; he came into care with us very underweight virtually skin and bones. It had been a long time if at all since he had regular meals. Since he has been with us he has flourished and filled out and now has the most glorious soft coat.

He does bark a little, he will let you know if someone is at your door. He can also get a little excitable meeting new people when they come to your home but he settles down. He also occasionally has a natter to you just to let you know how he is going. Such a little character.

He loves a walk but he only needs a short one-nothing too long. He certainly knows when it is time for his daily walk and lets us know if it we are running late.

Max would be best suited to a home with people at home the majority of the time where he can potter around the yard or house with a lot of couch time. He currently lives with three small dogs but he would also be best suited to be an only dog as he deserves to have his human affection all to himself. If he has a canine companion it would be best to be a gentle easy going senior.

Living inside for Max is a must, there is no more living in the backyard for this little gentleman. He currently sleeps soundly beside our bed and once settled stays until the morning and doesn’t mind a bit of a sleep in from time to time. He would be most happy to sleep with his is new family in their bed though if his new family prefers. When we have a sleep in we have brought him on the bed and he gets so thrilled to be up there he rolls until comfy and then settles down for a nap.

He is a good boy when having a bath and drying him with a towel. He doesn’t really like it but will stay still until him nice and clean. He is also a very smart boy and will respond well with further training.

When he first came to us he was not keen on being picked up but with time and working with him this has improved though we always speak to him first and tell him if we need to pick him so he knows what is about to happen.

Max may be 9 years old but he has a lot of life yet to live. He is not suited to a family with young children as he can get over excited when playing. He loves to play tug of war – it is his favourite game and will wrestle the toy for ages with you.

Max is a lovely, affectionate gentleman and will give his new family much love and joy.
