About Izzy
*** Izzy is currently recovering from surgery on her eye and also surgery for her luxating patellas, so she will be available for adoption once she is fully healed. ***
Izzy is a beautiful little Mini Foxie x Chihuahua. She is only 3 years old and just delightful and full of character.
Izzy is in a foster home with four other chihuahuas and she loves them She adores playing and loves a good romp in the garden with the rest of the dogs! Izzy recently met a large dog, and in true chihuahua style, she wanted to eat that big dog, however she doesn't have a mean bone in her body so we know it was just a big show.
Izzy is great with children and is fostered in a home with several kids. She loves to jump up in their laps for affection and she is never snappy with them. We think she would make a wonderful family dog and she just loves a good game!
Izzy likes to walk on a lead and she is very well behaved. However, there is nothing Izzy enjoys more then sleeping on the couch and having a good head scratch. She is the best of both worlds in that she is happy when she is out and about, but she is just as happy being a homebody.
There are several cats in Izzy's foster home, and she does enjoy chasing them and getting up to mischief, but she is very obedient and responsive when her foster mum tells her no. We believe she could be adopted by a home with cats as long as the cats weren't too highly stressed by a mischievous little ratbag chihuahua!
Izzy can be nervous in new situations, but she is never aggressive. Her foster carer is working hard on increasing her confidence and helping her feel safe.
As Izzy is recovering from patella surgery, she has been crate trained. She will happily sleep in her crate at night time and often retreats there during the day. Although she is very safe and happy in her crate, Izzy would just as happily sleep in her owners bed or on the couch, so she is an all-round versatile and perfect little girl.
Medical notes
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Chermside, Jindalee, Browns Plains or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant xrays and medical notes.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We test all our dogs for heart worm and treat them with regular parasite prevention.
Izzy had a condition called "Cherry Eye" - a prolapsed eye lid. She has had surgery to correct this, and has been on eye cream as her surgery heals. We expect this to be fully resolved by the time she is ready for adoption.
Izzy also has severe Luxating Patellas (which means her kneecaps dislocate), which is common in chihuahuas. Because this surgery is so expensive, we want to have the operations done before she is adopted so that this cost will not be passed onto her new family. Izzy will be ready to be adopted when she has fully healed from her operations.
