About Archie (Special Needs)
Dear little Archie is a special boy. He is looking for a home to retire to; a home that will understand that we don't know how long he will be with us for, it may be months or maybe years if we are very lucky. Archie has a serious heart condition, but he doesn't let that slow him down.
Tiny Archie is only 2 and a half kilos! He is full of spunk and sometimes he even likes chasing the cat in his foster home. He lives in a home with multiple other dogs and he gets along with everyone. Archie is so cuddly and delightful, everyone who meets him just falls in love! Archie has informed us that the perfect home for him is with someone who is home a lot - whilst he doesn't suffer seperation anxiety, he does love his company. He would love to spend the rest of his life with his people close by and not being left alone all day every day.
Archie's heart issues mean that he will never run a marathon or join you on a 5kg jog. Whilst Archie might not be the speediest little fellow, he still has an adventurous spirit and combined with his small size, he needs secure fencing. Little Archie would take himself on a wander if he could fit through the gaps in your fence. However he will be the best couch companion you could ever imagine and will keep you feet warm in bed each night if you'll let him snuggle in close.
Archies arch-nemisis in his foster home is the family cat - he just loathes those felines and spends his day making that clear to everyone who will listen. Archie needs a home without cats to chase, for the sake of the cat!
He also is quite little and fragile, so we would not be comfortable adopting him to a home with children.
The ideal home for Archie is one that understands that his life may be short (although many of our little heart murmur dogs have gone on to live for years after diagnosis!) and will be committed to giving him his daily medication. Archie is a joy to have in your home and he will make his forever family very happy, no matter how long he is with them for.
Medical notes
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Chermside, Jindalee, Browns Plains or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant xrays and medical notes.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We test all our dogs for heart worm and treat them with regular parasite prevention.
Archie came to us with severe dental disease but due to his severe heart murmur , we consulted with our vet and it was decided it was in Archie's best interest not to put him under anesthetic. He has been diagnosed with a severe heart murmur which is controlled well by daily medication. The medication regulates his heart function and prevents fluid from building on his chest, which is essential for quality of life. Now that he is on medication, he is not coughing and his heart murmur is not slowing him down at all!
Adoption details
The first step to adopting a dog from us is to fill out an expression of interest form.
We encourage you to provide as much detail as possible about your family and your home as this helps us make sure we match you with the most suitable dog.
This form can be found at the following address: http://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/Kczrs885x4lq3N9u4mQhca
Please note: we do not organise any meet and greet without a completed expression of interest form.
Our adoption process involves:
1) Completing online application form
2) Arranging a meet and greet with the dogs foster carer, after which we ask you to take 24 hours to make a decision about whether you want to adopt this dog
3) A brief home visit and yard check from one of our volunteers
4) Adoption trial spanning four weeks.
We ask that you pay the dogs adoption fee at the beginning of the adoption trial, however this will be refunded if for any reason the dog is not working out in your home within the four week period. We offer a four week adoption trial to make sure that you have plenty of time for your new dog to settle into your home and so we can offer you full support during this period and beyond.
We offer a free health check with our vets at Indooroopilly, Browns Plains, Jindalee or Chermside vet clinic after you’ve adopted your dog and every dog in our care is up to date with all vet work.
We have many dogs that are in foster care and are not yet ready to be listed for a variety of reasons. If you have a good idea of what you are looking for in your new dog please email us at chihuahuarescueqld@gmail.com and let us help you match a dog to your needs.
