About Mr Darcy
Mr Darcy is a very special boy who has been in our care for almost 6 months. If only dogs could talk, Mr Darcy would have some stories to tell us. This poor little dog has faced some unimaginable trauma, but we will never know what he has been through. What we do know is that something has happened to him in the past to make Mr Darcy become incredibly fearful in strange or stressful situations, and he needs an owner who understands this and will stand by him to provide comfort and endless love.
When Darcy is in his home environment, a different dog emerges. He is social and great with other dogs. He loves to play and is very happy to entertain himself in the garden. He loves being outside and doesn't suffer from separation anxiety whilst his foster family are at work.
Darcy loves to go for walks, which is something we're very proud of him for! When we first met Darcy, he was so fearful of a collar and lead that he would freeze and become unable to move whenever a lead was attached to him. These days, he walks with his foster carers happily and loves to go out on adventures.
Darcy is not suitable for a home with children.
When Darcy is stressed or in pain, he can bite. This is such a contrast for the happy, loving dog that he normally is, but sadly he can lash out when he is very fearful. He has made incredible progress and his foster carer has worked with the dog trainers at Paws and Relax to help him overcome his fears. Darcy has a behavioural plan to help him settle into his new home and CRQ will pay for his dog trainer to visit him in his new home to help his adoptive family settle him in.
Everyone who has gotten to know Darcy adores him, and we are confident that one day we will find the perfect home for him that will be understanding and committed. To those he knows and loves, Darcy is so loyal and loving and devoted.
Medical notes
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Chermside, Jindalee, Browns Plains or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant xrays and medical notes.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We test all our dogs for heart worm and treat them with regular parasite prevention.
Adoption details
The first step to adopting a dog from us is to fill out an expression of interest form.
We encourage you to provide as much detail as possible about your family and your home as this helps us make sure we match you with the most suitable dog.
This form can be found at the following address: http://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/Kczrs885x4lq3N9u4mQhca
Please note: we do not organise any meet and greet without a completed expression of interest form.
Our adoption process involves:
1) Completing online application form
2) Arranging a meet and greet with the dogs foster carer, after which we ask you to take 24 hours to make a decision about whether you want to adopt this dog
3) A brief home visit and yard check from one of our volunteers
4) Adoption trial spanning four weeks.
We ask that you pay the dogs adoption fee at the beginning of the adoption trial, however this will be refunded if for any reason the dog is not working out in your home within the four week period. We offer a four week adoption trial to make sure that you have plenty of time for your new dog to settle into your home and so we can offer you full support during this period and beyond.
We offer a free health check with our vets at Indooroopilly, Browns Plains, Jindalee or Chermside vet clinic after you’ve adopted your dog and every dog in our care is up to date with all vet work.
We have many dogs that are in foster care and are not yet ready to be listed for a variety of reasons. If you have a good idea of what you are looking for in your new dog please email us at chihuahuarescueqld@gmail.com and let us help you match a dog to your needs.
